Nautical Wall Decor - Nautical Wall Art

Updated on August 30, 2011

Nautical Wall Decor

Here's some great nautical wall decor to suit both the traditonal and modern nautical theme. This is a look that never goes out of style, so there's lots of different kinds of nautical wall art to choose from.

If you are looking for traditional nautical decor, there's all sorts of things below, from anchors, oars and even a replica bell from the Titanic. For something more contemporary, there are nautical themed wall stickers to add a touch of nautical detail to any room.

Nautical clocks, nets, life rings, sea shells, sea creatures and driftwood plus lots more can all be found below! This is a really fun theme where there are lots of nautical pieces to choose from.

Nautical Decor

You don't have to live by the ocean to have a nautical theme, you may simply have an appreciation of all things nautical and want your home, or a room in your home to reflect that.

By creating a nautical haven at home, it's easy to imagine yourself closer to the ocean than you actually are.

Colors such as navy blue and white, with a hint of red thrown in are a traditional nautical themed color palette for decor. If you want something modern, turquiose is a striking color for a contemporary nautical theme, though of course, all blues work well for representing the colors of the water.

Textures such as rope and netting give a very nautical element to decor. These can be used as wall hangings alongside other pieces, or draped across or around objects as a more subtle element.

Sea creatures are always a fun element to add to a nautical theme. You can see to the right that there are various creatures to add to your nautical wall art. This is a great theme that can be as subtle or as bold as you want.

Beachcombing is a great way to find items for nautical decor, sea shells and driftwood are great finds that can really add to the look. If you aren't able to beachcomb, or if you just want the easy option, there are some great sea shell and driftwood items on Amazon (scroll down).

You may just include a few small pieces of nautical wall decor, or you may go the whole hog and completely transform a room into a nautical themed haven. This is a fun theme with lots of nautical items to choose from, there's plenty more below!

Nautical Wall Stickers

One of the easiest ways to transform any room is by using wall stickers. These are great for a really easy way to update a room and are so simple to use. All you have to do is decide where you want your sticker or stickers to go, peel from the backing sheet and stick to the wall!

If you aren't happy with your placement, simply peel the sticker from the wall and re-apply somewhere else. If you happen to get bored of the look you just peel the sticker from the wall stick it back onto the backing sheet and you're done! These stickers are removable and reusable.

Nautical Wall Clocks

A clock is a really easy way to add a bit of a nautical feel to a room. If you want something subtle for nautical wall decor, these clocks make great statement pieces on their own.

Playing heavily on the nautical theme, these clocks are affordable pieces that can be teamed with other nautical wall decor for an overall look, or for just a hint of the theme, hung alone or with one or two other pieces.

More Nautical Wall Hangings

You can really have a lot of fun with this theme if you want to, and a friend of mine did just that. The first time I visited her house I walked into not only a nautical theme, but a nautical playground!

There were lobsters, crabs, seahorses, I think there was even an octopus hanging from the wall! She had all manner of sea creatures on display (all ornamental I should add!). Fishing nets hung from the ceiling with yet more sea creatures inside them and a scattering of shells.

Her nautical wall decor had life rings, anchors, fishing float buoys, ropes and sea shells everywhere. It's sounds like a nautical nightmare when describing it, but it was actaully done in a very artistic way that was a little surreal if not nautically eclectic.

Even if you absolutely love nautical decor, that may be over the top for most, but she had super fun creating the space and years of enjoyment of living in it. It was a fun work in progress for an eccentric and fun loving lady.

Driftwood and Sea Shells

Driftwood is a real nautical must have, and if you want some driftwood that's practical as well as good to look at, see the two items to the right. A driftwood clock and a driftwood hat or coat rack!

As for sea shells, they soften the overall nautical look and are beautiful pieces that can be displayed in a variety of ways.

You can have shells simply as ornaments on flat surfaces or they can be hung in a couple of ways. The easiest way to hang shells is using a net as I described my friend had done above. You simply secure the net to the wall or ceiling and place the shells inside.

You could also (carefully) make a hole in the shell and hang with rope twine.

There are so many things that can be done with the nautical theme, I hope that I've given you some inspiration for your nautical wall art!
