Cats have been part of our lives for longer than anyone can determine but most experts agree they were first domesticated over 5,000 years ago by the Ancient Egyptians, who considered them gods. In some ways, they are again treated like royalty today. Cats star in comic strips, cartoons, movies and tv shows.
One might say it is the time of the cat (pun intended) and so we thought what a better way to feature cats than writing about cat clocks. From the classic vintage tail-wagging clock that debuted over 80 years ago and is still going strong to cutting edge hi-tech cat-themed time pieces, cat clocks, like cats, have an irresistable charm to some and a lingering malevolence to others.

Keep Your Kit-Cat Clock Running Purr-fectly
Please note that the clock was designed to work when hung on a wall and the eyes and tail may not move when you hold the clock in your hand. The time keeping function of the clock and the movement of the eyes and tail are independent so even if the moving features get stuck the clock will continue to keep accurate time as long as the power source, whether electrical or battery, is functional.
Because the moving parts of the Kit-Cat clock are operated by a low-powered magnet, it is important to keep all moving parts free of dust and debris that can impede movement. If your clock hangs in a kitchen, you should also clean the grime from kitchen grease that may accumulate in the eye sockets so parts can move freely and easily.
You should also use a level to determine that the wall the clock will hang on is straight. If not, the clock may not work as intended. It also helps the clock perform better if there is a slight forward tilt to the clock, so leave about a 3/8 to 1/2 inch space between the wall and the top of the clock when you hang it. This moves the magnet inside the clock to maximize the magnetic field it creates.
