Kids Wall Decals / Stickers

Updated on May 28, 2012

Kids Wall Decals

Are you looking to redecorate your child’s bedroom? Kids wall decals can be a great way to renovate a child’s playroom or bedroom cheaply and easily without permanently changing the look of the wall. Wall decals for kids can also be a great compromise between kids wanting to frequently update the look of their bedroom and parents unable to paint the walls as often as their kids tastes change.

What Are Wall Decals

Wall decals are stickers for your walls that are in most cases removable. They are popular amongst both interior designers and families for the ease of application and for the ability to update a room’s appearance instantly and at fraction of the cost of painting an entire room.

The Benefits of Wall Decals

The Benefits of Wall Decals

  • There are many benefits to decorating your child’s bedroom or playroom with wall decals. One of the main benefits of parents is that there is no permanent change to your child’s wall. Often kids wanting to change the look of their bedroom will (or with their parents help) put holes in the wall, or use glue, sticky tape or tack. This can cause problems later on, especially if you are renting.
  • Kids go through many phases. One year they may me mad about princess, the next year butterflies could be their thing and the following year mermaids.  Kids wall decals makes it easy to update the look of their room on a regular basis whilst reflecting your child’s current tastes.

Where to Position the Kids Wall Decals

There is no rule as to where to position your kids wall decals. You may opt to place wall decals on all four walls, or you may decide to have one feature wall of kids wall decals. If possible, include your child in the decision of where to place the decals. This will help them to gain a feeling of pride in their bedroom. Some possible suggestions are;

  • Above their bed.
  • On one feature wall.
  • The wall above their dresser.
  • The bedroom door.

How to Apply Wall Decals

Applying wall decals to the wall is a relatively easy task to do. Before, you begin ensure that that wall is clean before you apply the wall decal. Clear aside some workspace on a table or desk to place your wall decals. Wall decals generally come with instructions so have a read of those before you begin the process of applying the wall decals to the wall.

Kids love to help and be involved, especially when it involves their bedroom. The degree in which they can help put up the decals, should be a judgment call based on their age. Most decals are removable, so there will be no harm done if they apply it in the wrong spot.

Tip: Most removable wall decals will not cause any permanent stain to wall once removed. It simply peels off and on and you are left with a clean surface. However, If you are apprehensive about this, test out one of your small wall decals on the corner of the wall and remove 24 hours later.

Thanks for stopping by jpcmc. The great thing about wall decals is that a child's room can get a new look as their interests change.

They are really beautiful. I'm sure my daughter will love them. Although she's just 1 year old, she responds to visual cues very well. When she grows older, perhaps we can put the decals together and turn it into a creative activity.
