15 Ways to Make Extra Money Over the Holiday Season

Updated on October 23, 2016

Although the Christmas season is a wonderful time of the year to be with friends and family, it can also be a stressful time because of the extra money for gifts, decorations and travelling. The Holidays can also bring opportunities to make extra money to help with these expenses. Here are some money making ideas for the holiday season.

If you presently have a job right now, ask your boss if you can work overtime hours. This is a simply way you can earn money where you are at.

The Holidays are the busiest time of the year for stores. Retail Stores are always looking for seasonal help in the evenings and weekends from October to January. Find that store in your area and fill out an application. Check out stores like Toys R Us, Walmart, Sears, Macy’s, Kohls, Target, Sam’s Club, etc.

If you see tons of leaves falling in many neighbors yards and no one is raking them or bagging them, then here is an opportunity to make some extra cash. That’s right, advertise your services and fees.

Also, if you live where it snows a lot, icy driveways are a pleasant sight to some folks. Here is another opportunity to make some more money- Shovel people’s driveways, walkways, remove snow from covered down vehicles.

If your area is heavily snowed in, you can work a tow truck or snow plow in the streets.

Many malls, restaurants and hospitals may need someone to be Santa this year. Inquire of opportunities in your town.

While parents go shopping they need someone to watch their kids and pets, so they can get all their shopping done in one piece. Do not wait for them to advertise, but you can express your availability to babysit and pet sit and advertise your services to neighbors, community and church members.

Another way to make money is housesitting for the holidays. If you are not going out of town to see relatives, there are probably other families who will be going out of town and need someone to take care of their home while they are away. This is a great opportunity to make extra cash.

Although we love to see the many lights and decorations outside of people’s homes, some of them do not enjoy decorating outside. Offer your service to help decorate the outside of the home for a small fee and help brighten up a family’s home and life.

Clean homes that are preparing for out of town guests to arrive and help in decorating the inside of the home.

Whether it is addressing holiday cards, mailing out cards & packages, helping with the shopping, putting up christmas decorations, wrapping gifts, make yourself available to help families in whatever way you can for a small fee.

If you look to cook and have been complimented for your cooking, then you can cater to a few small Christmas parties for extra cash. This can be your friends party, friends of friends party and people you know. Your kitchen will have to be approved by the health department. Advertise your service and enjoy.

After every holiday party, someone has to clean up. You and a few friends can make extra money by cleaning up.

If you love to make things, like a knitted sweater, scarf, socks, wreaths, candle, holidayearrings, necklace, christmas decorations, etc. then you can sell them at your local flea market

Empty out your closet, attic, garage and basement. See what items can be placed online on Ebay, Craigslist or can be resold and taken to consignment shops.

More Hubs is more money. Write as much as hubs as you can to get extra money. If you write for other places or other magazines, write more content.
