How does God feel about Prosperity?
What is true prosperity?
My hub help! does God want me to prosper has done quite well, but with some of the feedback that I have received, it has prompted me to write this hub. True prosperity according to scripture is not just about money because many have it and are not fulfilled or happy. The bible says in Proverbs That a little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked so true prosperity could not just be about money. God is concerned about the whole man which includes spirit soul and body, and when all of these areas have been addressed then a person will have true prosperity in a balanced way.
Man... a Tri-part being
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly...and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1Thessalonians 5:23).
Paul addresses the fact that man is a tri-part being who is a spirit who has a soul and lives in a body. The spirit of a person is who the individual really is. It is the part that is made in the image and likeness of God. John 4:24 says that God is a spirit and he is not a cloud of smoke the way many may imagine. We have emotions Like God because John 3:16a says for God so "loved the world" that he gave his only begotten Son. Scripture speaks of God laughing, becoming angry, loving, having compassion, all emotions that human beings have because we are made in his image and likeness. Mans quest and search for God expands the globe and can be seen through the religious acts of people from every culture, creed and color because the spirit of man or the real person without God feels empty. Earthly wealth alone cannot satisfy this hunger because Jesus said that a mans life does not consist in the abundance of things that he possesses. The spirit of a person contacts the spirit world, this is why many Religions incorporate fasting in their practices. Christianity also practices fasting and certain scripture such as in Matthew where Jesus popular message called the sermon on the mount says when you fast be not like the hypocrites who appear unto men to fast. In Matthew 4 Jesus fasted forty days and nights.
Man a Tri-part being continued...
The Apostle Paul in writing to the church at Thessalonica shows us that man is a tri-part being. He is a spirit that has a soul and that lives in a body. Many people put more emphasis on the body rather than spirit and soul, and this is reflected in the reason why billions are spent on cosmetic surgery and weight loss products.People
also fail to realize that they are more than just body because they fail to seek out spiritual help until they face trouble that they cannot
do anything about. The bible gives scripture for each characteristic of man...2 Corinthians 5:17 addresses the spirit of man when it says ...therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature (creation) old
things are past away and behold all things are become new. When it says
that all things are become new...it is talking about a persons spirit has changed from death (alive to worldly desires) to life (alive to the things of God). So then a persons spirit
is the part of a person that contacts God. The soul of a person is their mind, will and emotions...it is the part that reasons, thinks and feels. When a person becomes born again...the soul of man does not supernaturally change, but it must be renewed by the word of God. Romans
12:2 says and be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. The more we read and apply the word of God to
our life...the more we will put on the mind of Christ and the popular saying "what would Jesus do" comes to life. Because where the mind is ...the body of a person follows...for example, if a person thinks he must go to the store, then his or her body follows and goes to the store. As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is.
A prosperous mind
Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health even as thy soul prospers (3 John 2).
Total prosperity deals with a persons soul prospering along with their health and wealth. For a person to have wealth but not the health to enjoy it with is not total prosperity. And to have health without the wealth needed to provide for ones self and family helps one to see that prosperity is more than just money. Many of the near death experiences that I have personally heard about and seen finds the victim thinking about their family and whether or not they would see them again during their time of crises. I have not heard about anyone (Just my personal experience) on their death bed seeking advice about their investments or bank account, but their focus for the most part was on health and family. So then we see that total prosperity involves a balance of other important components.
How does a persons soul (Mind will and emotions) prosper?
And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).
The bible God's word teaches us how to think like God. The bible says that we are to have the mind of Christ, and the way to do this is to read and apply the word of God. Isaiah 55 says that God's ways are higher than mans ways and his thoughts higher than mans thoughts. For example the bible says that a person should love their enemies, but for a person using their own opinionated mind this sounds crazy because the norm is to become an enemy to your enemy and fight one another. But a prosperous mind would make the decision to do it Gods way with his help and allow God to fix the relationship.
