How To Live A Great Life Near The Beach That Doesn't Cost a Fortune

Updated on June 19, 2013

BEACH, OCEAN AND BREEZE

As you know millions of people every year look forward to summer and heading to the beach to relax after a hard years work at their job.

I always dreamed and wondered how to live a great life near the beach that doesn't cost a fortune, and believe it or not, I figured out exactly what to do in order to fulfill my life long dream and make that dream become a reality.

As many of you know from my previous articles and hubs I sold everything to fulfill my dream of living near the beach.

There is nothing like it in the world when you can get up and be on the beach smelling the fresh air and hearing the Seagulls sing in only minutes.

To be able to go out your back door and smell the salt air coming from the Bay only blocks away is something that will relax you no matter how stressed out you are.

Although many people would think I am crazy by saying this and may not think it is paradise to them, it is certainly paradise to me and my wife.

WHAT I DID IN ORDER TO LIVE NEAR THE BEACH

Here is how I was able to get to the beach and be able to enjoy my life without it costing me a fortune.

  • I started by making a long range master plan of what steps to take first to fulfill my dream.
  • I began selling my material things that really were my pride and joys.
  • I knew I had to get rid of these things in order to get rid of the monthly payments that went along with my play toys.
  • First, my 2002 Corvette had to go.
  • Second, my truck had to be sold.
  • Third, I had to pay down all the loans I had besides my automobiles.
  • I had to live frugal for sometime to make this plan I had work.
  • I cut down on many things.
  • I stopped drinking alcohol and put that money aside to help fulfill my dream.
  • I changed my way of living, meaning only buying what I needed, not wanted.

I am not the type of person that has patience and willing to wait for things, but in this case I was willing to take it slow and easy so that I didn't mess up my plan and my dream of living near the Beach and Ocean.

I knew in the long run, all good things will come to those who wait and I was will willing to wait as long as it took to get to my Beach and start relaxing everyday of my life.

I do work a Part Time job, but it is so amazing to be able to go on the beach and leave and be at work in only minutes. The pressure is off and I am now enjoying life like it should be enjoyed by all of us. After all, we are only here but once on Earth, so we must all live life to the fullest if you can. And if you can't try to figure it out like I did.

Granted, you might have to give up many things to fulfill your dream as I did, but remember they are only material things. Your life and peace of mind is worth far more that any material thing that's for sure. At least i feel that way, I don't know about you?

MY LOW COST BEACH LIVING HOME

After all said and done and sold all my material things, there was only one other huge hurdle to jump and that was selling my home that had so much sentimental memories to me as I grew up there.

The circle of life brought me back to this same home after my parents both passed away. I was left my childhood home to move back into with my wife of 32 years from my loving and caring parents.

I totally remodeled our home to bring it up to date, but back then I had thought I was going to stay there until the end of my time here on Earth, but things certainly changed after I stopped drinking alcohol and became sober living a life now with a clear and open mind.

Now being sober I could think correctly and continue to fulfill that dream of beach living.

We put the house up for sale and kind of took a beating because of the market being so poor. I never got the money I put into the house from the total remodel and needed to go with a short sale, so yes I took a huge beating.

In the end though, it all worked out because my wife thought of an idea to live in a 55+ retirement community. The community was an Mobile Home Park right up the street from the open Bay.

I purchased a double wide Modular Home that needed tons of work, but I knew it had great potential when I was through remodeling it.

The total cost for the home and another total remodel was $26,000.00. It is a Rancher type home and not what many people think when hearing, Mobile Home Park.

IT WAS ALL WORTH THE WAIT

Although it took years to fulfill our dream of living near the Beach, but it was certainly worth it. I couldn't ask for a better life.

I have what I dreamed about and it didn't cost us loads of money, although I don't live in a million dollar beach front, but my home is paid for and the beach is right up the street a couple of miles. I have the same access to the beach as the million dollar homes do without paying millions.

My motto is now, paying for what I need and may want cash and cash only. Live the simple life with no worries or stress anymore. If I feel a bit stressed out and feeling down, my beach is only minutes away to heal my inner soul.

If you ever noticed when you are down and out and you head to the beach and smell that awesome salt air your worries seem to disappear even if it is for a short time.

To hear the waves crashing on the surf and the Seagulls flying overhead singing their hearts out brings a sense of inner peace within. At least that is what happens to me and my wife.

The beach is so soothing and relaxing. It is like magic what the Ocean and Beach can do to you. I am sure anyone reading this will agree with my words, and if not, head up to the beach when you are tired out and stressed. See what magic the Ocean will do to your soul and body.

So the bottom line here is, if you are willing to downsize, change your life and being able to do with less, you can do as I did if that's what you wish to do in your life. It really isn't hard once you put your mind to it and get the job done.

Never let anything or anyone discourage you from fulfilling your dream in life, because if you do let that happen you will be sorry in the end that your dream never became a reality.

We gave up so much to have our dream become a reality and you can do the same if you are willing to give up things and live simple as I am now. Stress free living and being near the Ocean, Beach and Breeze is a gift from God I must say.
