Writing online can be a great way to earn money, especially when you combine articles with Google Keywords. Yet, it isn’t an easy process. It takes time, dedication, and lots and lots of patience. Thanks to Google Adsense, the ability to make at home income and become a writer online is possible.

While it has taken some time, I am glad to say I have joined the 15dollarnaire club! It doesn’t seem like much, but it is a milestone - even if it is a small one! It is one step closer to having a check in my hand from Google Adsense - it is one step closer to me being able to support myself with my writing.

I still have a long way to go, but I am still learning. While there are plenty of articles out there to help learn the tricks of making money online, the information needs to be sorted out to be beneficial.

During my short time since I have started publishing articles online, this is what I have observed.

1. Quality & Quantity

The internet is an interesting medium. It allows a writer to post something online, and earn extra money once it begins to mature. Once you have done all the hard work, the residual will keep coming in, as long as you have done the proper research to keep it in the spotlight.

First, and most importantly, to make sure the article continues to get attention, a writer needs to make sure all their work is quality work. Therefore, great topics and great writing is a must. This means the writer must maintain professionalism and make sure they proofread their work and use punctuation. To become a writer online, you must have certain business ethics. Consider this a job, and it will show it in your work. The result will be the ability to earn money online with Google Adsense.

Quality is important, but quantity is equally as important. Once you become a writer online, to earn money, you need to focus on both quality and quantity. Chances are higher of being read if you have a number of articles out there. From the amount of writers I have seen, it seems to me that those who have a wide variety and a selection of articles are the ones who claim to be bringing in enough money to support themselves.

Others who have few articles and claim to make money, still offer quality, but they spend much more time on keyword research. Therefore, people find their articles. Yet, with a small number of articles under their belt, they must be involved in other aspects of getting their name known.

2. Google Keywords

This is one of the hardest parts about marketing yourself online. To be found on a search engine like Google, the article needs to have certain keywords or key phrase. The relevance of these keywords and how they are used in the story will rank the article. The better the keywords, the more likely the article is to be found on the database we call the Internet. This is important because if your article is never found, you will never be able to earn money online.

I am currently still working on this. I have heard suggestions of using as many keywords as possible. I have also heard that using too many key words can actually work negatively against you. I have also tried using key phrases. After all, if you are looking for a way to earn money online, would you type “money” in the Google search, or would you type, “ making money online.” If you think about what you would type into the search engine to find your article, other people may be typing in the same thing. In fact, before you go ahead and publish your next article, Google your topic and see what keywords are being used for the top articles out there.

Another key tool is to use Adwords, which is a keyword tool sponsored by Google Adsense. This will help you determine which words are quality words, and if they have been oversaturated. The main things you will look for is how competive the word is and whether or not anybody actually searches for the words. Now, just because a word has high competition, doesn't mean you can't write on it. It just means getting noticed will be a little more difficult.

If you want to earn money online, using the keyword tool is a must. Without it, your articles may become lost in the oversaturated world of the Internet.

3. Topics

Choosing a topic is the fun part. After all, you can choose anything to add to your articles and still have the potential to earn money! The question is, what kind of writer are you?  Do you write for the passion and to get feedback? Or do you write to make money? This is probably a difficult question for a lot of true writers. After all, do you really want to downgrade your craft and style to write something boring just so you get the ad clicks. Probably not.

I have noticed several product reviews or other similar topics to get high paying ads. The first time I noticed this was around Halloween where several articles were written, each one paying individual tribute to a different costume. Obviously, the ads attached are going to be either costume or Halloween related. Probably something that will get a lot of clicks and earn money for the writer. While this tactic might make a writer money, will it leave them happy about the work they are doing. I can’t answer this question. Who knows, maybe they really like Halloween costumes!

Obviously this is a personal decision. If you do product reviews, chances are good you will probably get high paying ads and more clicks (but is that because the reader is more interested in the ads than the article?) If you write about what you are passionate about, the articles will still have ads attached, but the readers who find the article may be more interested in the article than the ads. (This might be why those who write more poetry have a hard time making extra money online until they are well known.) It’s the author’s choice. As far as topics go, as long as it is something interesting, you will get the reads. If if it is just family and friends reading it.

My other thought - write on something unique. If there are less articles on the topic, there is obviously less competition. If you don’t want to write about something unique, take a familiar topic and create a unique spin. If you prove your writing ability, the followers will come and so will your ability to earn cash!

What would you do?

After someone reads your article and gives you feedback do you...

4. Be Involved

I belong to a couple of writing websites… one of which is Hubpages. What I have noticed is the more involved you are, the more your articles will be read. After all, the true purpose of becoming a writer is to be seen. I noticed when I take a break and I am not as active on Hubpages with my publishing, the number of hits goes down. With less looks on my page, it is less likely any of the ads will be clicked.

The scenario works out like this: Author publishes article, Title catches readers attention, Reader opens article, Reader enjoys article and visits other articles written by author. During this timeframe, the reader may comment on the article and leave feedback; or maybe the reader will find an interesting ad on the side and they will click on it and you will get paid. Yet, if you are not actively publishing, you are relying purely on search engines to bring readers to your articles. (If this is your goal, I suggest doing good key word research and definately using the keyword tool provided by Google Adsense!)

On Hubpages in particular, I have also noticed when you participate in the community by either asking questions or answering questions, you will also become more noticed. If you ask or answer an interesting question, others will visit your profile. You will also notice by reading other author’s articles, you will draw attention to yourself. We all want feedback and if you are willing to read and comment on my articles, I find it my duty to pay the favor back.

The key here is be involved in your writing community. It will draw attention to you as an active member, but also a serious author. The more times your article is read, the more likely one of your ads will be clicked on. While the payment may not be the main focus, it is a nice added bonus

Setting your mind to it - Goal Setting

While making $15 dollars seems like a small drop in the hat, it is a goal reached. In fact, every penny I have earned is a goal. At this rate, it may take awhile to reach my first check, but I am patient and stubborn. I have noticed with each new article, the ad clicks are getting more and more frequent.

For those who are looking for a quick buck, you are in the wrong business. Writing online for money is time consuming and hard work. But the true writer does it for the passion of writing. They do it so their voice can be heard.

In the end, the persistence will show through and the good writers will survive. If you want to make money online, heed the warnings and heed the advice. It is possible with Google Adsense. It is possible with Hubpages. But most of all, it is possible if it is something you dream of doing!

Just a drop in the bucket, but when the ball starts rolling, the money will add up quick!

It's your turn!

Now that you have heard my thoughts about the whole process... now it is your turn. Is there something specific you look for when you are reading hubs? What keeps you coming back?

When it comes to earning money online with Google Adsense, what are your keys to success? Have you found niches that work well and others that don't? What ways to you use to get traffic to your pages?

As part of an interactive community, I look forward to hearing from you. I am hoping that I can help you with my ideas, and while we are there, I can learn a few things from you as well!
