Why you should let your wife handle your finances

Updated on July 15, 2014

This really depends on the individual however in many cases is it said that a women is preferable when controlling the family's cash flow and finances. In countries like Japan, the wife (typically house wife) will have almost 100% of the husbands salary and will give their husband back "pocket money". This will be typically enough to get by for the week or month or however it is calculated. The amount the husband receives will normally be discussed in the early stages of the relationship. This amount will typically cover daily expenses such as lunch etc. If more funds are required then the husband will need to ask his wife for the extra and also give a reason. It may sound like a big hassle for most men in the west however the advantages do weigh out the negative points.

The Advantages

In the weekdays, having a limited amount of funds will make sure you don't waste money on unnecessary shopping after work. Your funds for the day should only be for lunch, soft drinks etc.

It can help you a great deal if you are dieting. Eating out for lunch is not only is not only expensive but many places, especially fast food can be the worst thing especially if you have an office job which requires you to be seated for the majority of the day. All those carbohydrates will just sit there and eventually just turn into fat if they are burnt up.

Similar to a business, a single person handling the finances and making the decisions is normally the best thing. In a business there will probably only be the one person making the ultimate decisions however there may be a number assistants. This system can work well in the family also.

It's good for the wife's since there will have more control over there husbands activities whether that's good or bar. If the husband wants to engage in secret extra curricular activities then he will need find the extra money for that. It definitely won't be coming from the wife.

It definitely reduces the stress level for the working man, knowing that your money is being taken care of, as long as you do trust your wife.

The Disadvantages

Not all women are good with handling finances, women can be sucked into gambling addictions just as much as men. Receiving a full paycheck every month can be tempting for some people. I have known house wives blow their husbands money on things like Forex and gambling in Casinos.

Also having insuffient funds means that you will be tempted to dip into credit loans. It may only be for small purchases here and there but they certainly add up.

If your wife has 100% of your money then it may be a problem in emergency situations where cash will be required. It is very important to leave some reserves in a separate bank account simply for this purpose.

Joint Bank Accounts

Please note that this is not like having a regular joint Bank account, this is about the majority the cash going into just your wife's account with only her having access to it. So as I mentioned earlier, trust is the key ingredient here.
