Do I file when I only received cash income and will not get at a 1099?
And if so, what line number on my return would apply for cash income only?
Filing depends on your age, status (single, married, etc.), total taxable income, etc.
Your cash income is probably considered self-employment since you're talking about 1099s. Self-employment income is listed on line 12 Business income or (loss) of the 2009 version of the 1040 form, for example.
As an example, if you're single under 65 for 2009 income, you wouldn't generally have to file if your income were under $9,350.
For self-employment, you have to file if your net earnings are $400 or more. Net earnings are the total amount you received minus expenses.
You are required to file and report income from self employment if your gross receipts are more than $400 whether you receive any 1099's or not. The income and any deductions from your self employment would be reported on either Schedule C or C-EZ, with the income less deductions then being reported on the form 1040. Since it is self employment income, it is subject to self employment tax so your filing requirement is based on the $400 amount even if your income is below that for income tax purposes.
