Can I file and receive the child credit while having no earned income for the year?
I am a single mother to a disabled 2 yr. old. I receive SSI in the child's name and sporadic child support payments. I haven't worked since shortly before the child was born.
It is my understanding that in order to receive the earned income tax credit for a child or children that one must have earned income.
I'm not sure if you were asking a question about the Earned Income Credit or the Child Tax Credit, but in either case you would need to have earned income to qualify.
