When a poor, uninsured person walks into an emergency room, who ends up paying the bill?
Emergency room care is the most expensive form of healthcare. Uninsured people are most likely to use the emergency room for care. Who pays in the end?
The patient does. A hospital will send you a bill for services received whether or not you have insurance. If you can't pay the bill in full, you may be able to work out a payment plan. That, or they send a collection agency after you.
I once had a hospital emergency when I was between insurance coverage and I ended up paying the whole thing out of pocket. Sucks, but that's what you have to do.
ER care is way too expensive.
Remember the Sept. 2011 Tea Party Debate the audience cheered idea of letting uninsured patients die?
The reality is that people are not let to die. The hospital absorbs the costs when the uninsured do not pay and then passes the costs on to the rest of us.
Note: 16.3 percent of the U.S. population is uninsured.

If the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer, how does the middle class shrink?Seems like more space is created and with population always increasing, seems like the middle class should expand, not shrink or disappear. Right?
