WORLD HEADLINE NEWS - For the Week of: MAY 15th - MAY 21st

In the Year of Our Lord (2011)

"...he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head... If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves." (Ezekiel 33:3-5 NKJ)

If You Hadn't Noticed, "Judgement Day" DID NOT Come on MAY 21st !!!

"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only." (Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32 NKJ)

Judgment Day? No Way! What's Behind the May 21, 2011, End-of-the-World Rumor

Forget the Mayan calendar's 2012 doomsday. One Christian radio network has calculated its own apocalyptic date: May 21, 2011. You've seen the billboards and heard the ads. The Christian network Family Radio has proclaimed for months now about the impending date, which it is calling Judgment Day. The network's president, 89-year-old Harold Camping, is a decades-long student of the Bible who claims that the numbers add up to Christ's second coming on May 21.

According to an Orlando Sentinel article, Camping cites two Bible passages to determine the date. The Book of Peter implies that the end of the world will occur 7,000 years from the date of the great flood. And the Book of Genesis says the flood occurred on the "17th day of the second month."

If the world doesn't end on Saturday, however, Camping will have an excuse to diffuse the doubters. In fact, it's not the first time that he has forecast the end of days. He once predicted that the apocalypse would occur in September 1994, but when we were still alive in October, he reversed his claim, saying that "important subsequent biblical information was not yet known."

Apocalypse Now?: 'Rapture 2011' Comes and Goes Quietly

A California preacher's prediction that the end of the world would begin today seems to have come to nothing. When the appointed hour for the Rapture to begin in New York, the skies did darken a little -- but all that followed was a drizzling rain that soon passed. Nothing like what Harold Camping and his followers said they believed would occur.

Robert Fitzpatrick, a 60-year-old retiree from New York, spent his $140,000 life savings to have 3,000 posters put up in New York City's subway and bus system, warning of this impending End of Days. "If you're not saved by the time these events begin tomorrow, then you'll be left here to face judgment day." Today in New York's Times Square, as 6 p.m. came and went, a number of people were yelling and jeering him, but he just stood there quietly reading his Bible.

Leaders among mainstream Christian denominations have largely condemned date-setting, citing Bible verses that say no man can know the time of the Rapture.

Camping had been "thrown off a correct calculation because of some verses in Matthew 24," a Family Radio spokesman told ABC News.

Other sources report that Camping has also now stated: "that the inaccuracy was in part because he did not correctly account for 'leap years' in the equation."

Gabe Lyons, author of "The Next Christians," points to a more troublesome aspect of doomsayers: distraction. "It continues to put in front of Americans the idea that this is mainstream evangelicalism," he said on "Good Morning America."

"The bigger concern is we lose focus on our work here as faithful followers of Jesus while we're on this Earth," Lyons said. "That's a real problem."

As far as the Holy Scripture actually reveals, we may be able to agree that current affairs on the world scene do indicate that we are drawing very near the time for the beginning of the "Great Tribulation" and other prophetic events. However, we will still never be able to predict the exact date of when these events occur... until they actually happen.

"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night."
(1 Thessalonians 5:2 KJV)

"Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." (Revelation 3:3 KJV)

However. . . The Time of Tribulation is Very Near

UN: North Korea, Iran Share Ballistic Missile Technology

A classified United Nations report says North Korea and Iran have routinely shared ballistic missile technology in violation of U.N. sanctions, and diplomats say China has sought to block release of the report.

The document, seen by Western journalists, says the illicit technology transfers passed through a neighboring third country, which diplomats identify as China, North Korea's closest ally. Beijing has not commented on the report, which also includes accusations the technology was transferred aboard regular air flights of Air Koryo and Iran Air - North Korea’s and Iran's national airlines.

The U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions against North Korea after two nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009. Iran is also under international sanctions because of its uranium enrichment activities, which the United States and its allies suspect are weapons-related. Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

China has in the past attempted to block reports critical of North Korea, and Russia took similar steps last week to block an expert panel report on Iran. Both Moscow and Beijing have argued that the United Nations should not impinge on the sovereignty of member countries.

Politicians Murdered on Colombia-Ecuador Border

John Freddy Londoño and Brandon Bustamante were running for seats on the council of Valle del Guamuez, a municipality in the southwest department of Putumayo. They were killed in a residence while campaigning, reports Colombian newspaper El Espectador.

It is not known who is responsible for the murders. It is possible that they have some relation to the 48th Front, one the most powerful fronts of the Southern Bloc of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia - FARC), which has a presence in the department.

InSight has reported on the risk that the BACRIMs could try to interfere in Colombia's local elections, due to be held in October. Election years always herald a rise in violence as Colombia enters its 47th year of civil conflict.

Massacre Leaves 29 Dead in Guatemala

Assailants killed at least 29 people - decapitating most of the victims - on a ranch in a part of northern Guatemala plagued by drug cartels.

The massacre took place early on Sunday in the town of Caserio La Bomba in Peten province near the Mexico border, according to National Civil Police spokesman Donald Gonzalez. Among the 29 dead were two children and two women.

Guatemalan police said the victims of Sunday's massacre were bound and their bodies showed signs of torture. They were believed to have worked on the farm. Police found a message written in blood at the scene saying: "Salguero, we're coming for you." Police did not say who Salguero was.

Authorities said police and soldiers were searching the area for the unidentified assailants and didn't offer a motive for the attack.

Ethiopia Rebels Say Govt Troops Kill 100 Civilians

ADDIS ABABA, May 16 (Reuters) - Ethiopian government troops have killed more than 100 civilians, including a local U.N. worker, during a five-day military operation in the oil and gas-rich Somali Region, a rebel group said on Monday.

More commonly known as the Ogaden, the ethnic Somali province is home to a low-key insurgency led by the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), which has fought for independence since 1984.

"The Ethiopian army and its local conscripts killed more than 100 civilian people from May 10 - 15 in the area, (and it) is still on going," the ONLF said in a statement.

"The (ONLF) intelligence service has ascertained that the Ethiopian army conducted the killing and abduction of U.N. local staff in the Ogaden jointly with the notorious militia of the (local) administration," it said.

Government officials could not be reached for comment.

Somalia Shelling Kills 14 Civilians at Market

MOGADISHU — Shells fired in battles between insurgent militant Islamists and African Union forces at a Mogadishu market on Wednesday left at least 14 civilian dead, witnesses said.

"Nine victims died in two separate areas inside Bakara market, most of them women," witness Idriss Ali told AFP.

Ugandan and Burundian soldiers from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) launched a "new operation" earlier this month targeting areas controlled by the Al Shebab group, force spokesman Paddy Ankunda said Monday in a telephone call.

The African force is continuing to close in on the Bakara market, the economic heart of Mogadishu and a large source of income for Al Shebab who want to see the fall of the interim government headed by President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed.

25 Killed in Afghanistan Protest, Car Bombing

(video) - Twelve die in a clash between security forces and demonstrators angry about a NATO raid. Elsewhere, an explosives-laden car is rammed into a bus carrying police recruits, claiming at least 13 lives.

Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan - Furious anti-American protesters poured into the streets of a city in northern Afghanistan on Wednesday, shouting out objections to an overnight U.S.-led military raid that killed four people, including two women. Subsequent clashes with security forces trying to quell the demonstration killed 12 people, provincial officials said.

Elsewhere in the country, a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden car into a bus full of police recruits near the city of Jalalabad, killing at least 13 people and injuring 20 others. The dead and injured were a mix of civilians and the recruits, the Nangarhar province governor's office said.

The Taloqan raid and its explosive aftermath pointed up the striking degree of discord between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and ordinary Afghans over nighttime operations aimed at capturing or killing insurgent figures.

Within hours of the overnight raid, as many as 1,500 protesters poured into the streets, clashing with Afghan police and trying to overrun a NATO outpost manned by German troops. About 50 people were hurt in the unrest, provincial officials said.

The clash comes amid a surge in violence that usually accompanies the advent of warmer weather and the start of the "fighting season." NATO said a service member died Wednesday as a result of an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan but gave no further details, including nationality. Two days earlier, four Americans were killed by a roadside bomb in the south.

Myanmar Bomb Blast Kills 2 on Train

The blast happened on the sidelines of a senior United States’ diplomat’s official visit to Myanmar.

A bomb explosion on a train near Yangon on Wednesday killed at least two people, including a woman, and injured several others, an incident that the government blames on Karen National Union insurgents.

Earlier during the day, Deputy U.S. Assistant Secretary for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Joseph Yun held talks with Myanmarese Foreign Minister Wunna Maung Lwin in Naypyidaw and discussed ways to boost relations between the two countries.

Several bomb blasts have rocked Myanmar in recent years, which the government has claimed to be acts of armed exile groups.

Court Filings Assert Iran Had Link to 9/11 Attacks

Two defectors from Iran’s intelligence service have testified that Iranian officials had "foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks," according to a court filing Thursday in a federal lawsuit in Manhattan that seeks damages for Iran’s "direct support for, and sponsorship of, the most deadly act of terrorism in American history."

One of the defectors also claimed that Iran was involved in planning the attacks, the filing said. The defectors’ identities and testimony were not revealed in the filing but were being submitted to a judge under seal, said lawyers who brought the original suit against Iran on behalf of families of dozens of 9/11 victims.

The suit contends that Iran and Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant organization with close ties to Tehran, helped Al Qaeda in planning the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and in facilitating the hijackers’ training and travel. After the attacks, the suit contends, Iran and Hezbollah helped al Qaeda operatives escape, providing some with a safe haven in Iran.

The filing says the defectors worked in Iran’s Ministry of Information and Security "in positions that gave them access to sensitive information regarding Iran’s state sponsorship of terrorism." It says they have reason to fear for the safety of themselves and their families "should their identities and the content of their testimony be revealed publicly."

APOCALYPSE = (Greek: apokálypsis; Definition: "Lifting of the Veil" or "Revelation")

"But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age [ the Devil ] has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them." (2 Corinthians 4:3-4 NKJ)

Hundreds Of Coptic Christians Attacked as Religious Turmoil Continues to Plague Egypt

An angry mob attacked a group of mainly Cotic protesters demanding drastic measures to heal religious tension amid a spike in violence, leaving 78 people injured, officials said Sunday.

The Christian protesters have been holding their sit-in outside the state television building in Cairo for nearly a week following deadly Christian-Muslim clashes that left a church burned and 15 people dead. More than 250 people rushed into the sit-in area, lobbing rocks and fire bombs from an overpass and charging toward the few hundred protesters sleeping in the area. 7 vehicles were set on fire and fires burned in the middle of the street.

Religious clashes and a rising wave of crime have proved to be a major challenge for Egypt's military rulers in the days following the 18-day uprising that led to the February 11th ouster of ex-President Hosni Mubarak. Tension between Christians and Muslims as well as inter-faith problems within Islamic groups themselves have been plaguing Egypt since the turnover.

Just hours before the Cairo violence, several suspected Islamic extremists bombed the tomb of a Muslim saint in the northern Sinai town of Sheik Zweid, said a security official, also declining to be identified because he wasn't authorized to release the information. The official said the eight or nine attackers fled the area. Muslim radicals have blown up at least five other Muslim shrines, because they believe the veneration of saints as a violation of Islam.

Muslim Mothers in India Charged in 'Honor Killings' for Strangling Daughters Who Married Hindu Men

Two Muslim mothers in India were arrested and accused of killing their daughters for dishonoring their families for running off with Hindu men, authorities said.

Newlyweds Zahida, 19, and Husna, 26, who were neighbors, were strangled on Wednesday night when they returned home after marrying men their mothers didn't approve of, cops said. The mothers allegedly helped each other choke their daughters.

"We killed them because they brought shame to our community," Khatun, one of the mothers who uses one name, told the Indian Express newspaper after her arrest on Friday. "How could they elope with Hindus? They deserved to die. We have no remorse," she said.

While there are no official figures, an independent study found that some 900 people were killed each year in India for defying their elders, according to The Associated Press.

HEAVEN IS A 'FAIRY STORY', Says Stephen Hawking

British scientist Stephen Hawking has branded heaven a "fairy story" for people afraid of the dark, in his latest dismissal of the concepts underpinning the world's religions. The author of 1988 international best-seller "A Brief History of Time" said in an interview with The Guardian published on Monday that his views were partly influenced by his battle with motor neurone disease.

Hawking's stance on religion has hardened significantly in the nearly quarter century since the publication of his seminal work on the cosmos.

In "A Brief History of Time" he suggested that the idea of a divine being was not necessarily incompatible with a scientific understanding of the Universe. But in his 2010 book "The Grand Design" he said a deity no longer has any place in theories on the creation of the universe in the light of a series of developments in physics.

Medvedev Warns of Cold War Over Missile Defence

President Dmitry Medvedev Wednesday warned of a new Cold War era if Russia and the West failed to agree on missile defence, in the first major news conference of his presidency. Despite the startling warning to the United States and Europe, Medvedev confounded expectations he would use the event to finally announce if he intends to seek a new Kremlin mandate in 2012 elections.

Medvedev told reporters that the US decision to push ahead with construction of the missile defence system despite Russia's objections will force Moscow "to take retaliatory measures - something that we would very much rather not do."

Moscow has been fighting NATO plans to deploy a system the West sees as a means of protection from nations such as Iran but Russia believes could potentially be deployed against its own defences.

U.S. Government Hits Debt Ceiling, Lighting 11-week Fuse

WASHINGTON - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner informed Congress on Monday that the United States has reached its legal debt limit, setting off a ticking time bomb that could explode in less than three months if lawmakers can't bridge differences and allow more government borrowing.

In hitting the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling - the limit on how much the government can borrow - the Obama administration on Monday began temporarily halting payments to the retirement and federal pension accounts of federal workers and started borrowing from those funds, to be restored later.

An increase of about $2 trillion is expected, enough to get the issue past the 2012 elections before Congress would have to lift it again. If Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling by Aug. 2, it would force the Obama administration to choose between paying creditors or paying for military operations, Social Security and Medicare payments, and other commitments.

A government default on debts surely would trigger a harsh reaction from investors and could panic global financial markets, jeopardizing the U.S. and global economies. It would mean that the world's largest economy was governing its finances as if it were a basket-case economy such as Greece.

It might not even take a default to have severe consequences for the U.S. economy, warned prominent forecaster Mark Zandi, the chief economist for Moody's Analytics. Democrats and Republicans alike frequently cite Zandi's research.

"The global investors are going to ask themselves how long can policymakers pay me and not a Social Security recipient? So if I were a global investor, I would be bailing well before that, and interest rates would spike," Zandi said.

'Moderate' Palestinian Leaders Stress Hard-line Positions

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas marked "Nakba Day" - the Day of Catastrophe on which Israel was reborn as a nation state - by reiterating his hard-line positions on future control of Jerusalem and the introduction of millions of foreign-born Arabs into Israel proper. "We will never accept a Palestinian state without Jerusalem as its capital," Abbas told a group of Palestinian dignitaries in Ramallah on Saturday.

Address the "right" of millions of so-called "Palestinian refugees" to take up residence both in a future Palestinian state and within the borders of sovereign Israel, Abbas stated: "The return is a practice, not a slogan. Palestine is for us. ...The Palestinian leadership will never give up the right of return."

Abbas is praised by Washington and other Western powers as a moderate Arab leader and Israel's best hope for peace.

Did 'Son of Hamas' Mosab Yousef Dupe Christian Zionists?

When Mosab Yousef, the son of a prominent Hamas leader, converted to Christianity and wrote a book chronicling his years of clandestine collaboration with Israeli security forces, he became a sensation among pro-Israel Christians in his adoptive homeland of America. But now, other former Palestinian terrorists-turned-Evangelical Christians are accusing Mosab of duping pro-Israel churches for his own personal profit or, worse, in order to negatively influence their view of the Jewish state.

Mosab's "tale has since been revealed to be a 'long con,' the evidence coming from when he speaks publicly in Arabic," charged Walid Shoebat, a former PLO terrorist who came to faith in Jesus in 1994, and has since been an ardent Christian Zionist. In an op-ed published online earlier this month, Shoebat further explained that "Mosab did not convert to what the West would recognize as Christianity, but to a fiery, Palestinian brand of the faith that is vehemently anti-Israel."

Indeed, there is a growing trend among Evangelical Christians, both Palestinian and Western, to adopt what has been termed "Palestinian Liberation Theology." This teaching is actually Replacement Theology in a new guise, as it denies that modern Israel has anything to do with the Bible or biblical prophecy.

Shoebat believes Mosab Yousef, riding the popularity of his book "Son of Hamas," is trying to further advance this teaching among Evangelicals in America.

Syrian-Israeli Flare-up Expected

Debkafile's Washington sources report exclusively that President Barack Obama has finally resolved to stamp down hard on Syrian President Bashar Assad in person as the man responsible for the inhuman Syrian crackdown on protest against his regime and the massacre of hundreds of dissenters.

The administration has also decided to authorize the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna to report to the UN Security Council that Syria was building a plutonium reactor for military purposes at Deir A-Zour, which it was bombed by Israeli in September 2007. Damascus has refused to cooperate with the nuclear watchdog in making the site available for inspection.

It is taken into account, Debkafile's military sources report that tough American measures targeting Assad will bring forth heightened Syrian-Israeli border tensions, potentially in the form of a limited Syrian military strike into Israel or Lebanon or both.

Washington's impatience with Syria was evident in the harsh tone of the White House rebuke of Syria as "inciting protests on the Golan Heights" and therefore responsible for the clash and loss of life which resulted: "The Jewish state has the right to prevent unauthorized crossing at its borders," said White House spokesman Jay Carney Monday.

The White House's allusion to Israel's borders in the Golan context was deliberate, our Washington sources report. It signposted Barack Obama's intention to emphasize the importance the U.S. attaches to Israeli border security as a matter of policy when he meets Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at the White House Friday, May 20 and again when he addresses the conference of the US-Israeli lobby AIPAC Sunday, May 22.

The Good Old Days of Slaughtering Jews

The Palestinian leadership has learned how to play the international community, and is now careful to conduct itself with diplomacy and tact when speaking publicly, at least in English. But many average Palestinians lack that tact, and often let slip their violent hatred of not only Israelis, but all Jews.

That was the case this week when a Hamas-controlled televisions station in Gaza broadcast a "Nakba Day" interview in which a 92-year-old Palestinian woman recounted with joy the mass slaughter of the Jews of Hebron in 1929. The woman said her father took part in the massacre, happily butchering Jewish men, women and children who had been their neighbors. She went on to wish for a return to such days.

'Israeli Arabs Want To Destroy the Jewish State'

"There is no solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," writes Professor Dan Schueftan in his book, Palestinians in Israel: The Arab Minority’s Struggle against the Jewish State.

Schueftan, a respected Middle East expert and deputy director of the National Security Studies Center at Haifa University, has been studying the Israeli Arab community for over 40 years. He says that the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993 was a turning point in the radicalization of the Israeli Arabs.

There are 1.5 million Arab citizens in Israel, about 20 percent of the total population of 7.8 million. Israeli Arabs have the same rights as Jews, including the right to vote, and there are 12 Arab parliamentarians in the 120-seat Knesset. However, they do not identify with the Jewish state, but rather with their 3.5 million Palestinian "brothers" in the so-called "occupied territories."

"This means that they envisage on the site of present-day Israel, between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea, nothing more than a Palestinian state," says Schueftan, who for the last 40 years has served as an advisor to Israeli heads of state.

Schueftan concludes that for the Arab population, Israeli citizenship is just a means to an end. "They don’t view citizenship as a step toward eventual identity as Israelis along with the Jews," the professor says. "They want to use it to dissolve the democratic Jewish entity.

The Holy Scripture tells us that there will be SIGNS and WONDERS in these times, coming from BOTH the Lord AND His adversary! How do we know what is from the Lord God and what is part of the enemy's lie? How do we even prepare for this? Only the Word of God can help us sort these things out, accompanied by fervent prayer and the guidance of His Holy Spirit.

"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through SIGNS and WONDERS that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved." (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 NV)

42 Killed in Uttar Pradesh Storms, Rains Cool North India

New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) At least 42 people were killed and 50 others injured in thunderstorms and lightning that struck various parts of Uttar Pradesh early Saturday morning as light rains and cool breeze across most Indian states brought down temperature, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said.

High-speed winds lashed parts of eastern and central Uttar Pradesh around 5 a.m., uprooting trees and lamp-posts and knocking down hoardings, besides crushing thatched homes in villages. In some places, the storms were followed by a brief but heavy downpour.

According to an official spokesman, Shahjahanpur district was the worst affected with as many as 16 deaths, followed by Lakhimpur-Kheri with 11, Budaun with nine, Ambedkarnagar four and Bareilly two.

Mississippi River Closed After Barge Sinking

The U.S. Coast Guard has closed a five-mile stretch of the swollen Mississippi River after three barges sank. They were being pulled by tug boats when they broke loose near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, officials said. A fourth barge broke loose but was captured.

The river has been experiencing record flooding in recent weeks. The high water has made navigating the river, one of America's most trafficked, hazardous. The river is filled with debris and the fast-moving current has been complicated by powerful eddies and white caps.

The river was expected to crest at Natchez, Mississippi on Saturday at 61.8ft (18.8m), more than three feet above the record crest set in 1937. Authorities last weekend opened a spillway in southern Louisiana to take pressure off levees protecting Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

More than 3,000 people have evacuated from flooded parishes in southern Louisiana. The river is not expected to recede to normal levels until mid-June.

The Mosquito Virus Killing One-quarter of its Victims

A deadly mosquito-borne virus that has no cure and no vaccination, has claimed the lives of two Australians.

Both the Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) and the closely-related Kunjin viruses cause a serious inflammation of the brain, and have already hospitalised six West Australians. The Health Department is continuing to investigate reports that more people have been infected.

Department entomologist Sue Harrington said while there was no suggestion the MVE virus would reach Perth, the fact it had already hit the Wheatbelt and mid-west regions was of a concern.

"Every case is very significant, because about one-quarter of all cases die, and of those that survive they're left with severe nerve damage that can result in paralysis."

There is not yet a cure for the virus, nor a vaccine to prevent infection, said Ms. Harrington

According to a UN-circulated report, the outbreak of cholera in Haiti is the direct result of pollution of a tributary of the Artibonite with a South Asian strain of the infection – the result of human activity.

There is a Message of HOPE for the WORLD!

Even though everything we have discussed and shown thus far seems to depict a tragic and fateful end for our world, that is actually NOT THE CASE! The state of humanity's existence does not end in chaos or complete destruction at this time. Nor will these events leave the whole world in a panicked state of confusion, always to be frustrated in futile attempts trying to achieve a Utopian existence. The "Great Tribulation" period is only for a few short years and is merely a transitional period at end of an age. A NEW AGE IS COMING immediately thereafter!

"...SEE THAT YOU ARE NOT TROUBLED; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet." (Matthew 24:6 NKJ)

"All these are the beginning of birth pains [sorrows]." (Matthew 24:8 NIV-KJV)

This is probably the most accurate representation of the entire "Great Tribulation" event. "Birth pains" are very discomforting and often quite painful. A new birth involves "labor" which is an extremely strenuous and exhausting process (ask any woman who has endured this). The end result however, is "relief" from this labor and suffering because a "new life" is then born!

That is exactly what will transpire in this world. We are in the final chapter of an old and worn out age of civilization. A grand and glorious new age lies directly ahead for those of us that endure and have accepted the Lord God.

"These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." (Revelation 7:14-17 NIV)

Therefore, these sometimes frightening words of prophecy are really a harbinger of hope to those who are searching for God today. It is through the belief that Christ died for our sins (John 3:16) and faith in His second coming (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18), that we are all "saved" and will enter into the coming Kingdom of Heaven along with Him.

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers SALVATION TO ALL PEOPLE. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope - the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ." (Titus 2:11–13 NIV)

"He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." (Revelation 22:20-21)

      Rev. Teddy C. Ryan III

8 years ago from a life in sin saved by the Lord's grace - we are blessed with the ministry in Florida & Georgia

Hail brother Dave - good to hear from you. Let me elaborate some more on what you have briefly mentioned for the benefit of the readers:

In the Epistles to the early churches, one of the things the Apostles wrote about was to address the confusion over the "Day of the Lord" (Christ's return) because there was much confusion on this topic. Some believers were not sure when this event would be (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4) as some even thought that it would imminently occur at any moment ("the Kingdom of the Lord is at hand"), while others still were unclear about how the actual "Ressurection of the Saints" would take place (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Otherwise, in the verses from 2 Peter 3:1-10, he is attempting to portray a reference that time passes very differently in the realm of God (Heaven) versus what we know as "time" in the material universe. For example, the "7 days of creation" could equate to an actual 7000 years on Earth (we do not know for sure) and this is part of "the mystery of God". Mainly in 2 Peter, they are trying to show that even though time passes more slowly for the Lord, He will not take "forever" to keep His promise in the second coming of Christ, and that this event was still to be at some time in the future of mankind. "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness." (2 Peter 3:9). However, the statement in (2 Peter 3:8) "1 day for God = 1000 years", was not meant to be taken as a formula for all scripture verses, or as a calculation in reference to prophetic writings pertaining to Christ's return.

Each prophecy has its own unique message and way of symbolically portraying events and timelines. For example in the Book of Daniel we see where the "70 weeks" ("seventy sevens") are referred to (Daniel 9:20-27), where this equates to: one day = 1 year (similar to in Leviticus 25:8). This is term of 490 years ("determined for thy people”), referring to events that will affect Israel and the holy city of Jerusalem. This is further broken down into: "7 sevens", "62 sevens" and one final seven (70 total). The first 49 years ("7 sevens") referrs to when the children of Israel were allowed to return out of exhile from Babylon (444 BC) and rebuild Jerusalem (See: Book of Nehemiah). The "62 sevens" are the 434 years (approximately) which transpires between the completion of the new temple and when Christ is crucified (Daniel 9:26) in AD33. The math is only off by a few years because of the difference between the Hebrew lunar calendar and the Gregorian calendar that we currnetly use.

The last 70th "week" (7 years) is for the final part of the prophecy which refers to the when the temple in Jerusalem is going to be rebuilt again and a peace declared with Israel. "He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’" (Daniel 9:27). This time frame is what has become known as the last 7 years leading up to the second coming of Christ, of which the second part (3.5 years) is the time allocated for the "Great Tribulation" under the control of the antichrist when he breaks that peace: "In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."

Likewise in the Book of Revelation, it has its own time scale which is mostly a literal account referring to the "Great Tribulation" period as lasting for 1,290 days (Rev.11:3) or 42 months (Rev.11:2;13:5), and symbolically as in Daniel "It will be for a time, times and half a time" (a time = 1 year), thus 3.5 years.

So basically, if we look at ALL the prophetic "End Time" writings in scripture, most of the benchmarks have already occurred and the other "warning signs" are happening right now. There are only these last couple of elements just mentioned above that have not yet happened regarding the introduction of this final 7 year period at the end of this age. That is, a Middle East peace with Israel (which is what the U.S.A, U.N. and Palestinians are pushing for in the coming several months) and the start of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem (which 3.5 years into this peace, the antichrist will become that "abomination" that interrupts everything). And of course as you mentioned, the "Rapture" is likewise part of this timeframe.

Hope this helps to pull it all into persprective. With blessings... Rev.Ted
