A Full Sprint to the Fiscal Cliff
Will It Be a Cannonball or Swan Dive
As the drama continues to unfold in Washington DC over the issue of the impending fiscal cliff debacle. Most Americans, myself included grow more and more skeptical, that we will in fact go head first over the cliff. Some are going as far as predicting the odds for & against our economy going over said fiscal cliff. Those odds are looking pretty bleak against America's economy not going over the cliff, basically they're beating on us to do just that.
This potential outcome will have a negative effect on everyone pretty much equally, in the short term but over an extended time-frame the lower income, working poor & middle class will bear the brunt of the heartache or problems. Of course this whole situation could've or still can be avoided if Republican (Tea) Party stopped splitting hairs over taxes and the social safety net. I think they're more afraid of losing their job than actually doing the job they were elected to do. Most of the House Republicans lack the intestinal fortitude to tell the far right wing zealots, no you're wrong, that's not the right way to do things.
The Tea Party's stranglehold over the Republicans members of the US House of Representative would be comical, if it didn't potentially have such dire implications on our economy as well as world markets too. It seems like they've scared them enough to think that if they derail the progress of the Obama Administration's economic recovery efforts and put us back into another recession it will make him look bad as a leader and up their scores in the public's mind. This couldn't be further from the truth, their efforts have earn them the lowest approval rating of any other congress.
The sensible Republicans must stand up and draw that proverbial line in the sand with the Tea Party faction amongst their ranks. This foolish notion of not raising revenue to offset the spending cuts they want is obscene, especially since poll after poll shows that the general consensus of Americans agreed that taxes on the rich should go up to the rates that they were during the Clinton years. With this deadline growing ever closer to merely imply, that it might be okay to go over this cliff in order to let the record show that they were for tax cuts as oppose to increasing tax rates on families who's combined annual income is over $250K.
Do they think that average Americans wouldn't notice the okie-doke they're trying to pull over on us. Especially since that okie-doke involves taking money out of the pockets of families struggling to survive from paycheck to paycheck. In the words of Reverend Al Sharpton of Politics Nation, nice try but we gotcha! Half of the Tea Party's misguided angst is about something that has no real bearing on anything other than ignorance and negative stereotypes.
It's a know fact that Republicans created this debt crisis to begin with, two individual wars lasting over 10 years, unpaid for prescription drug plan and oh yeah, two tax cuts for the so called job creators. Now that there's a democratic president they're trying to lay the blame squarely on his shoulders, most Americans are smart enough to see through their ruse. Plus their was record job creation under the previous democratic president as well as a budget surplus, so they're trying anything they can think of to distract the public from thinking about those facts. And the efforts to demonize President Obama out of the big Whitehouse at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC, but that didn't work either so who knows what it is their really up to.
Here's a hint to the Republican (Tea) Party members in the US House of Representatives, particularly Speaker Boehner. Avoid going over the cliff because that up or down vote Senator Reid is going to call will show all middle class Americans which, of the Republican (Tea) Party caused their taxes to go up unnecessarily. This isn't meant as a threat, just a friendly reminder from your constituents whom your stubbornness took more money out of their pockets. Just fold, you were dealt a bad hand by W. Remember the clock is winding down t-minus 34 hours 50 minutes EST.
