A Full Sprint to the Fiscal Cliff

Republican (Tea) Party Sprint to the Fiscal Cliff
Republican (Tea) Party Sprint to the Fiscal Cliff

From left to right, Good to not quite Good Enough.
The Republican Way as demonstrated by one-time leading candidate.
The Republican Way as demonstrated by one-time leading candidate.
The Truth speaks volumes.
The Truth speaks volumes.

Will It Be a Cannonball or Swan Dive

As the drama continues to unfold in Washington DC over the issue of the impending fiscal cliff debacle. Most Americans, myself included grow more and more skeptical, that we will in fact go head first over the cliff. Some are going as far as predicting the odds for & against our economy going over said fiscal cliff. Those odds are looking pretty bleak against America's economy not going over the cliff, basically they're beating on us to do just that.

This potential outcome will have a negative effect on everyone pretty much equally, in the short term but over an extended time-frame the lower income, working poor & middle class will bear the brunt of the heartache or problems. Of course this whole situation could've or still can be avoided if Republican (Tea) Party stopped splitting hairs over taxes and the social safety net. I think they're more afraid of losing their job than actually doing the job they were elected to do. Most of the House Republicans lack the intestinal fortitude to tell the far right wing zealots, no you're wrong, that's not the right way to do things.

The Tea Party's stranglehold over the Republicans members of the US House of Representative would be comical, if it didn't potentially have such dire implications on our economy as well as world markets too. It seems like they've scared them enough to think that if they derail the progress of the Obama Administration's economic recovery efforts and put us back into another recession it will make him look bad as a leader and up their scores in the public's mind. This couldn't be further from the truth, their efforts have earn them the lowest approval rating of any other congress.

The sensible Republicans must stand up and draw that proverbial line in the sand with the Tea Party faction amongst their ranks. This foolish notion of not raising revenue to offset the spending cuts they want is obscene, especially since poll after poll shows that the general consensus of Americans agreed that taxes on the rich should go up to the rates that they were during the Clinton years. With this deadline growing ever closer to merely imply, that it might be okay to go over this cliff in order to let the record show that they were for tax cuts as oppose to increasing tax rates on families who's combined annual income is over $250K.

Do they think that average Americans wouldn't notice the okie-doke they're trying to pull over on us. Especially since that okie-doke involves taking money out of the pockets of families struggling to survive from paycheck to paycheck. In the words of Reverend Al Sharpton of Politics Nation, nice try but we gotcha! Half of the Tea Party's misguided angst is about something that has no real bearing on anything other than ignorance and negative stereotypes.

It's a know fact that Republicans created this debt crisis to begin with, two individual wars lasting over 10 years, unpaid for prescription drug plan and oh yeah, two tax cuts for the so called job creators. Now that there's a democratic president they're trying to lay the blame squarely on his shoulders, most Americans are smart enough to see through their ruse. Plus their was record job creation under the previous democratic president as well as a budget surplus, so they're trying anything they can think of to distract the public from thinking about those facts. And the efforts to demonize President Obama out of the big Whitehouse at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC, but that didn't work either so who knows what it is their really up to.

Here's a hint to the Republican (Tea) Party members in the US House of Representatives, particularly Speaker Boehner. Avoid going over the cliff because that up or down vote Senator Reid is going to call will show all middle class Americans which, of the Republican (Tea) Party caused their taxes to go up unnecessarily. This isn't meant as a threat, just a friendly reminder from your constituents whom your stubbornness took more money out of their pockets. Just fold, you were dealt a bad hand by W. Remember the clock is winding down t-minus 34 hours 50 minutes EST.

Seriously, the Senate Democrats have been far more amendable than House Republicans by more than I'd say 5 to 1. I don't see Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi being unable to get the Senate Democrats or Republican to get off their high horses and try to do their job more frequently than House Republicans who're all about covering their own ass' from being threatened with primaries from the far right.

My info comes from sources like C-Span, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post.com, Washington Post, NY Times, CNN and MSNBC just about any place other than FoxNews.

PAYGO, I've not heard anymore about Paygo since it was re-instated in July 13, 2011.

Name one of those so called Jobs Bill that the House Republicans passed onto their Senate counterparts

The PRESIDENT AND THE DEMOCRATS passed PAY-GO LAW, somehow they can't respond to following the law.

''Do Nothing Congress" Senator Reid has been the Senate majority leader in the Senate since 2007-2012. House Speaker Pelosi ,2007,2008,2009,2010 and minority leader 2011 and 2012.The Republicans control the House, 2011,2012. A simple minded person would be able to understand who would have the title of Do Nothing Congress"

What scares the ultra rich and powerful is the fact that middle class might actually gain a couple points in life, leaving that much less for them to take. It's not that they're lacking anything just that they're greedy, the poor/middle class have too much money and they don't have enough, atleast in their minds.

Case in point, imagine if the Republican (TEA) Party members of Congress had passed or even allowed a vote for Bills like American Jobs Act, Infrastructure Bill or Teachers & First Responder Bills were made into laws. Unemployment would be lower and the economy more than likely wouldn't be nearly as stagnant or lethargic as it has been.

Then President Obama's re-election bid would have really been a cakewalk, because we'd be much better off as a nation and the Republican (Tea) Party really wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Without such staunch and adamant anti-Obama rhetoric coming from the far right, the 112th Congress wouldn't have earned the nickname of "Do Nothing Congress" or their lowest approval rating since the 1940's.

      Dear Mr. EWALL

To the best of my recollection Bush ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DID NOT inherit a Clinton recession, in fact the economy was robust and thriving with record numbers of job creation 23 million.

Once again in 2000 Bush started with a Budget SURPLUS of 236.2 Billion. Now with regards to PAYGO, maybe on the off chance that the PAYGO restrictions still been in effect we wouldn't be in this mess. Had they been the law of the land then in 2003 that second Bush tax cut and Medicare Prescription Drug plan wouldn't have been passed into law thereby getting the deficit ball rolling downhill. By re-instating PAYGO in July 2011, President Obama must have thought that it prudent to rein in the Gov't spending.

Addressing the 41 to 1 ratio, is utterly ludacris because President Obama offered the Republicans a $10 spending cuts for every $1 revenues raised and they refused the deal. And for the record Government Spending under the Obama administration has risen at a slower percentage rate than the days of Presidents three decades before himself.

I think both political parties have failed and should have been good a long time ago. What puzzles me is the obvious knowledge that Bush was probably the worst President ever. I love the blame game but you have to be at Stalingrad to think you can still win the war at this point. Oh you bet, no surrender the troops are right behind you. With the secret that no one is coming you remain fervent to the last man. Here is my take on Obama. What an excellent President, remaining silent and knowing he had to wait until his second term to get anything done. He is quiet and has not faked or started any wars. I am not his fan and quit voting for anyone long ago, but you have to admit he has been great. If he could get rid of all these out of date, non-realistic, purchased by big money already rich, non representative and never walked or ever will walk in the average persons shoes Republicans. He might have fixed these problems by now.

On 1/01/13, President Obama praised Congress for passing the fiscal cliff bill last night .Today the CBO released their report on the bill. The bill has a 41 to 1 taxes to CUT spending. The bill will raise taxes $620 billion and will increase the deficits $ 4 trillion on a 10 year projection.

The President and the Democrats claim a big victory, they got the tax increases without cutting spending.

INSANE, do the people realize we are borrowing money to operate the government. Wake Up America!

Very good research about the Bush past years.''2001 it was down to $128.2 Billion''LET'S NOT FORGET THAT BUSH INHERITED a Clinton recession, 9-11 disaster, hence the tax cuts ( for everyone) of 2001 and 2003were to save the economy.Today let's not be fooled, the Bush tax cuts are tax rates.

'' PAYGO expired in 2002'' pay go was not in the Bush years.Obama signed pay go law on 7/19/11.

I think we are just discovering the truth of who these people truly represent. I for one never believed that these politicians cared one bit about our country or the majority with no voice. Living with their big money, status and playing joint ventures in supporting others like them, why would they care? Its a game to them and they never lose regardless. They are unconcerned about retirement, health care or where their next meal might be. Take a long look at those who our opposed to helping the vast majority out. See what fair is in their eyes. Stop believing what they tell you and see what they do. You our poor and living in a bankrupt nation because of them. We are not poor because we are stupid. We are poor because they were greedy and we are stupid because we vote for them and allow them to destroy us. With no money in our country they are still fighting to owe up to any debt. Lets make the poor people of our country give up their last cent. Evil, wicked self serving Politicians would rather jump off a cliff then to have their bankers pay a dime.

Mr Jon EWALL, I'm more than a little skeptical over the intended purpose of "The Cut, Cap & Balance Act". If memory serves me correctly it would have plundered & pillaged the Medicare, Medic-aid and Social Security.

Plus as soon as PAYGO expired in 2002, shortly afterwards the Bush Tax Cuts a.k.a. Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 and the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act that the Whitehouse acknowledged would not conform to or meet the PAYGO requirements.

In FY 2000 there was a budget surplus of $236.2 Billion, by 2001 it was down to $128.2 Billion. When 2002 rolled around there was a deficit of $157.8 Billion. So forgive me for not readily believing both Bush Tax Cuts in 2001 and 2003 and two wars plus medicare prescription drug plan had the democrats fingerprints all over it. Pretty much in the same way that republicans would have disposed of that $716 Billion in savings to Medicaid that Republicans claimed before the election President swindled from the program, but it was the same amount they were planning to cut under the Romney/Ryan budget or Plan to Prosperity and do who knows what with.

By no means are the Democrats as pure as the driven snow so to speak, but they're are just less obvious with doing dirt or telling lies.

Mr/Mrs Conservative1 I'm just not buying that line the Democrats forced Bush's hand to sign those tax cuts that ultimately favored the so-call job creators. Or the prescription drug plan without means of covering the cost according to PAYGO or BBA rules. Besides the two wars that started under Bush, quickly squandered the budget surplus.

''itle should be the Democrats tax cuts'' not really. The Bush tax cuts were in 2001 and 2003, the Republicans cotrolled Congress until 2006. For all these years after 2003, they are not cuts but tax rates.

''the fiscal cliff',THE hOUSE HAS ALREADY PASSED A BILL TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

See my post above ’Cut, Cap and Balance ‘’bill that was sent to the Senate on July 19,2011.

What you fail to comprehend is that the Democrats had control of the House and Senate during the Bush administration which goes to prove that in all actuality it was the Democrats who created this package of tax cuts/eventual hikes and spending increases and now looming budget cuts. Of course, who might I ask was a Democratic Senator at the time that these were put into place yours truly...Obama. Not that he was or is to blame, but what goes around comes around and here we are just hours away from the fiscal cliff created by the Democrats, and who do they blame none other than Bush and not those who created this fiascal in the first place. So now the Republicans, who are in control of the House have to try to figure out how to repair and avoid the fiscal cliff which the Democrats developed while they were in control of both Houses of Congress. Of course, one would point to the title the Bush Tax cuts, when the true title should be the Democrats tax cuts signed into law by Bush because his hand was forced into such action.

''It's a known fact that the Republicans created this debt crisis ''. That’s interesting, the Democrats were in majority control of Congress in 2007 and 2008. The recession started in Dec 2007 and ended in June 2009.Think about it. In 2009 the Democrats controlled the government 100% in 2009 , 2010 and today since 2007 -2012 ,they have had 2/3s control of the government. The Republicans are to blame, really.

''This foolish notion of not raising revenue to offset the spending cuts they want is obscene,''

There is a law that the Democrats and the President pushed thru in 2010 that says exactly that.
