Boiling Over

The Real Red Menance?

When Russians rose up against the Czar and established their vision of Marx's theories, a persistent threat was born that would last until the fall of Communism in Europe. It became easy to tag any movement against corporate greed, etc as "Communist". Even today, in the spirit of Joe McCarthy, Rep. Allen West, darling of the Tea Party, alleged that there are communists in Congress!

Recent events in Arizona, and much of the rhetoric from the Tea Party, would seem to show that the true revolutionaries are on the Right. The Southern Poverty Law Center, reported that 2011 was the third straight year of an increase in extremist groups, In places like Arizona and recently North Carolina, toned-down version of their ideas have won public support.

Understandable, as the reactionaries and nostalgics see their vision of America fading into a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, urban landscape. Their anger is fueled by media voices whose main goal may be to divide and divert so that an elite can build their corporate state.

If Obama wins, I can see things only getting worse. The Right, which seemed to be riding high in 2010, will have been denied it's goal. It's victories in the courts may prove Pyrrhic, serving only to rally people around the idea of how important the judiciary is.

I could easily see something like what happened in Tuscon, Arizona, or even Norway, happen here. Some rogue individual or group plotting some attack on a government building, likely in a smaller city.

But what if Romney wins. While the "%1" would spin this as the Democrats going too far left, might it be a case where the Democrats didn't see that much of their 2008 base had taken to the streets in Occupation.

As I said in a prior hub, under a Romney regime, the Occupiers would have to become more of a resistance. They would need to focus more on civil disobedience and direct action. They would not be able to merely stand around. Another tactic that the "%99" might need to look into is infiltration. Find people sympathetic to the ideas who can get into the machinery of the "%1". These people could then act as "leakers" or even engage in social engineering.

There are some other things Occupy would need to do. Find a face and a voice, no resistance has lasted without this; King, Mandela, C, Chavez, etc.

Finally, Occupy would need to make plans where this could lead, an insurgency. This might mean making efforts to get foreign support; our own Founding Fathers owe much of their success to contributions from France and Germany.

People turn to revolt when they feel that the political process has failed. It would seem that no matter which side you are on, that may be how it seems.
