Can We Have a Do-Over?

Updated on October 11, 2016

Introduction

Why are we putting up with this charade of a presidential campaign? The system seemed rigged from the start. Why are there no qualified candidates running? Who is manipulating us through the main street media? Do we have democracy any more? Are we to be part of a reality TV show?

Is there any way for a do-over?

- Oct. 2016

Background

I realize it is very late in the election cycle but is it too late to choose another candidate? It is a serious question. At what point is it appropriate to ask for a change? We knew from the beginning that something might throw this election off.

For one thing, we knew Hillary Clinton was being inveatigated by the FBI over the emails. Why was there no plan B? Unless the outcome was pre determined. The whole investigation was a show and never would lead to an indictment.

On the GOP side, we had 17 candidates running in the primaries? Since when in our history did we have so many? That we had to hold two debates, one in the afternoon and one in the evening... With so many qualified candidates, we ended up with an outsider that has zero experience in government. His fame and fortune as a reality TV star and a real estate tycoon pit him over the top. He broke every conventional wisdom of running a campaign. He spent very few dollars and received all the free publicity by saying outrageous things.

Now we have the off the cuff video surfacing on Trump, and the leaked wilileak emails with damaging revelations. At what point is enough?

Who is to Blame?

There are many factors. My top three would have to be the Media, the Elites and Wall Street.

The media is suppose to be the watch dog over people in power. They must be objective and expose corruption where ever they find them. They must not take sides and help one side over another. Where are the Wategate investigative journalists of today? There arw plenty of sources...

The elites includes, Academia, Hollywood celebrities, political pundits, and rich billionaires (Soros, Buffett, Gates, Zuckerberg, Schmidt, Cook...) who have succeeded in our free market system and yet trashes it every chance they get.

Finally, Wall Street, the donor class who have figured out a long time ago that in order to make easy money and control the populace, the best course of action is to buy influence in Washington DC and local government regardless of party affiliation. That is what helped Trump all these years being the outsider. He was part of this corrupt system, from the other side.

What Recourse Do We Have?

In any system, there are some contingencies. In beauty pageants, they select a winner and a runner up, just in case if the winner cannot complete her term.

For example, even if an elected President commits high crime and misdemeaners, he can be impeached and remove from office. In an election, there should be contingencies in case of emergencies or irregularities. We cannot just accept two very flawed candidates as our choice to take on the most important job in the land.

Here are some ideas:

  • Recall election
  • Repeat the primary convention to select alternative candidate
  • Select a runner up candidate

Being late in the election cycle, with less than 4 weeks left, I would prefer the runner up being the replacement candidates. In the Democratic side, it would be Bernie Sanders, and on the Republican side, it would fall to Ted Cruz.

Summary

I know this may be wishful thinking on my part but I would be ecstatic if this would happen this election cycle. I can be excited about an election again. Sadly, it will never happen. I hope the people learn a lesson from this debacle. Let's make sure our future elections are free from this drama.
