Gay Marriage: My Christian Perspective

Updated on March 28, 2013

My Thoughts on Gay Marriage

And he (Jesus) answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Matthew 19:4-6

Hi all. I was driving home from Jacksonville, Fl one Saturday afternoon alone and bored so I turned on the radio and started scanning for a station to listen to. I started with the FM stations. I pushed the scan button on my radio to receive a sampling of each station. As it ran across 89.9 (NPR) I heard a female voice say the Bible was inconsistent with itself and with our society on several issues. This remark grabbed my attention, so I left it on that station and listened further. In her attempt to discredit the Bible, she went on to use for her example slavery, stating that the Bible says it is OK to have slaves. Mockingly she added, "We all know that slavery is wrong." I was about to move on since the speaker clearly had not taken the time to find out what the Bible really thinks of slavery, when she started in on her attack on the traditional Christian family model. Declaring that just as our society has changed its understanding of slavery it is now time to change our understanding on marriage. It turns out this program was a sounding board for the left, designed to express its outrage on the Florida and California ban on gay marriage. The last remark I heard before moving on was that they still had a lot of work to do in our society.

The last remark bothered me more than all the attacks that I heard previously. Why? Because it reminds me that there is a organized effort in America determined to discredit God's Word, the church, and the traditional Christian family. This atheistic movement is wealthy, aggressive, and so far very effective in their efforts. I am hearing their outrage everywhere in the media, from talk show hosts to Beauty Pageants. They are taking their agenda seriously. While they actually represent a very small portion of our society, one would think they were the majority. This is because their message is everywhere and in your face all the time. Their overall aim seems to be to remove God from our society. Because Christianity is the dominate religion in America , they have to discredit the Bible and redefine marriage. They do this by promoting humanistic world views, which rejects the sovereignty of God. They recognize that if they wish to redefine society as a whole, they must first redefining marriage For the foundation of our society is the family.

The same sex union is only one of many movements across America that attempts to remove God from our society. What God has joined together, man wants to pull asunder.

If things continue as they are today, I expect that some time in the near future same sex marriage will be legal in all 50 states. While I'm not a defeatist, I am very practical. I don't believe we can legislate Christian doctrine. I recognize that the traditional Christian family model points to Christ, and like the church, it is a representation of the Kingdom of God. To expect a non believer to understand or accept a Christian's view of marriage is unreasonable.

The word marriage to a Christian has religious overtones. We believe calling their union marriage insinuates God's approval and acceptance. I, as a Christian, see it like this, the gay and lesbians are demanding that God accept their view of marriage in the same way Cain expected God to accept his offering of fruits and vegetables. When God refused to accept Cain's offering, he became furious. From Cain's perspective the rejection seemed completely unreasonable. Because Abel's offering was accepted in the eyes of God, Cain grew jealous, then attacked and killed Abel. God is not an ice cream parlor. You don't get to choose your flavor. Because he has only ordained one model for the family, the gay and lesbians only have two choices, either accept this model or reject it. In their rejection, they are attacking the Christian Church. They are shaking their fists at us because God will not accept their union. Their problem is not with the church, it is with God. But it will be the Church that is persecuted.

John 15:18-19
If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

The reality is that they can call it marriage and they can have all the legal rights that this government can give. Let the world do as the world does, for we are not of this world. But they are going a bit further than this. They are insisting we the Church also accept their union. I have watch as denomination after denomination has had to affirm their stance against gay priest, pastors, and gay marriage. Most stand by their biblical position but there are some that are caving to the pressure. It would appear that the gays and lesbians want God's approval. Their union has been rejected. They will never be one flesh in the eyes of God.

In Gen 4:6-7 God says,

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."

God's response was wonderful. He was not rejecting Cain he was rejecting his offering. God's response to the gays and lesbians is the same. Come on, do what is right and you too will be accepted. However we know that Cain wanted it his way, not God's way and so it is with the homosexuals. God is not homophobic. He does not hate the sinner. But he does hate the sin.

These are hard times to be a strong Christian. I am sorry to say, it is going to get a lot harder. I wish you to take heart, be strengthened in this knowledge. God is sovereign! He is able to overcome his enemies. The Gay Rights movement may have a lot of money, the power of the liberal media and Man's stamp of approval on their side. But in the end it will be God's opinions and views that matter! It will be His understanding of right and wrong that counts. God created the family. He knows how to defend it.

In the meantime, if you find yourself as the odd man out on this subject. If those on the other side are making you feel foolish for your faith in Christ and His ordained picture of the family. Remember Luke 21:17. Jesus said that we will be hated by all men for his name's sake.

In Luke 21:12 he said:

But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.

While we are not being thrown in prison, We are being persecuted and our stand is definitely being brought before kings and rulers. Making the next verse all the more relevant:

Luke 21:13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.

I believe that there has never been a better time to share our faith in Christ. Declare to the world the truths we live by. The traditional Christian family model is bullet proof when it comes to doctrines and truth. In it are all the tenets of our faith that point to Christ. Use it to share your faith. Tell people why you believe in the traditional Christian family model. You may be surprised! In so doing you may discover a new believer just waiting to be born.

Revelations 12:11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

2 Timothy 1:8-9
Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

The Bible is relevant, It is consistent, and is exactly what this generation needs. Society is indeed out of step with it. God's Word is sovereign over the world and its governments. So my Brothers and sisters in Christ, chin up and keep pressing on.

In Christ

      Dear Raven Biker:

America is indeed diverse, but this is not a good justification for ignoring a godly principle that have proven to preserve both family and culture. As diverse as America is, homosexual practices are prohibited by all major religions, Christianity is only one of the many. So to answer your question about "Who's God?" Well, unless you are a godless atheist, it is actually everyone's god from the Christian to the Buddhists. Every major religion calls Homosexuality sin. Even so I am not standing up and demanding that homosexuals leave America. However, I do believe it is an abomination to God, bad for Families, and bad for America.

You said ""My god would say "I love you because I made you as how you really are---"choices" and all."

Actually I believe that through Jesus Christ, will accepts me the way that I am, But he loves me to much to leave me that way.

You rather you believe it or not, God hates homosexuality. Those who practice this perversion are not among the godly and will not stand in the congregation of the righteous.

I will submit my will to the one and only true God. That is my Choice and that is the right thing to do no matter who you are.

This hub is a well articulated view if Christianity and thank you for clearly stating that it is personally yours. You wrote, "Their (the GLBTQ Community) problem is not with the church, it is with God." Who's God? As you clearly stated---your God.

The clear assumption you have made in your hub and your subsequent commentary is that our country should and would, if she didn't rebel so much, follow your God. Now remember, America is is as diverse as diverse can get. Your God chooses to say such things as "Love the sinner and hate the sin" whereas mine would say, "I love you because I made you as how you really are---"choices" and all."

Again, what I appreciate is your articulation but what I have issue with is your choices. Thanks.

Aaron, I respect your views and your religion completely, so please do not take anything I say offensively.

This is America, where everyone does not have to be Christian. We do not live in a Theocracy, therefore your Christian views should not reflect on your thoughts about gay marriage. I understand you believe strongly about this topic, but gays deserve the same equality every other human being in America deserves.

Once upon a time, the thought of being friends with an African American was unspeakable. Two different races marrying one another was an abomination.

What gives you the right to tell two people who love each other they cannot be married?

I am completely shocked you are such a devout Christian, yet you don't hesitate a bit to completely bash the homosexual population. What happened to Christians accepting their fellow neighbor?

I appreciate your honesty. I would like to commend you on your desire to align your self up with God's Word, despite your own feelings and understanding. Obedience to God's Word, even when you don't agree or understand is a part of worship.

Scripture often contradicts our sense of right and wrong. I have come to trust His definition of good and evil over my own. By doing so, I have never gone wrong. I get in trouble when I trust in my own sense of justice.

      Deuteronomy 32:4

He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

      God Bless

Sadly, there are many that disagree. But I must stand with God's Word. Thanks for stopping by and for adding me to you friends list. May the truth in God's Word Guide you and deliver you from all evil.

@Justme2616, no disrespect and nothing against the gays/lesbians but to marry them defeats the purpose of marriage. No one says they can't be together for as long as they want and their togetherness can be legalized if they so wish but not as the church would bind them.

If they want to be respected, I believed they should also respect our beliefs and our church for that matter. Why do we have to give in just because they are loud about it? Again, just my opinion. Blessings to you.

I think people that love each other should be able to get married no matter what their gender. However, that leads me to struggle with my spirituality because marriage in define by God in his word as a man and a woman. I know he calls for obedience to his word and I can't go against that so my feelings are just feelings.

Very well said. I had the pleasure of reading this hub. I couldn't agree more on your point of view. I know many will disagree but I stand firm on my belief: Marriage is a union between a MAN and a WOMAN. This is not some kind of by-law. This is God's law that no man can modify.

"God has only ordained one model for the family, the gay and lesbians only have two choices, either accept this model or reject it." - choice, we all have a choice.

I pray for enlightenment. Voted Up and sharing.

I appreciate your thoughtful response, even though I don't agree with it. Now I understand that you meant this as a hub for Christians. Fair enough. Though I personally hope that you will change your mind one day, I wish that all opponents of gay marriage took the time to sift through their thoughts this way and kept compassion in their hearts. As you respect my rights and others, we can (and have to) agree to disagree on LGBT morality. Best of luck, and I wish peace and happiness for you and your family.

BOb: I do so appreciate you kindness and your gentleness.

Please keep in mind that my intended audience for this article/Hub are Christians. Those inside the church.

You said, in the kindest possible way,

"Consider happy gay and lesbian unions of a lifetime. How different are they really from the heterosexual ones? Especially those that are unhappy, and filled with grief and strife. Why not accept their lives and agree to disagree?

I don't know if you read this entire article but I used the bible story of Cain and Able as an example. It answers your question perfectly.

In case you are unfamiliar with the story let me give you the Readers Digest version. It can be found in the bible in Genesis Chapter 4

Two brothers bring a sacrifice to God. One brother is a farmer and the other is a Sheppard. Each man brings as an offering the best that they have. Cain brings his best fruits and vegetable while Able bring the first born of his flock.

God rejects Cains offering and accepts Able's. The story goes on to tell how Cain gets furious at ABle and murders him. God places a mark of some kind on him, and he has to live the remainder of his days in humiliation for the murder of his brother.

I use this story to point out this. From Cains perspective his offering was just as good as Able's. In fact it could be argued that it was better since he had to work harder to harvest it. However God is sovereign He makes the rules. We must subscribe to his understanding of right and wrong not our own.

Bob I can work with a homosexual, shop with them eat at the same table with them and I will carry on polite and engaging conversations with them. I will treat them the same as any other person I encounter in the course of a day, But if asked, I will not say to them that their lifestyle is OK with God. If its not OK with God. If its not OK with me. That being said, I do not go and knock on their doors and preach to them or hand out tracks. If they ask me my Christian perspective, I will give it in the kindest and gentlest way as possible, Just as you have with me.

Now I would address the issue of your "Gay Christian Friend"

When a person come to Christ Jesus and has a true Christian conversion. Something happens inside, changes start to happen. The bible refers to this as being born again. They become aware, often for the first time, that the way they are living their life does not please God so they gladly begin to systematically work to remove those things that hinders their Christian growth and ultimately their relationship with God.

Certain sins such as drug abuse, alcoholism, and homosexuality require time, in some cases, professional help to overcome. It is unrealistic for the Church to expect these types of sin to disappear over night with out special divine intervention. God has delivered people instantly, I have seen it happen, but most of the time it is a process and a determined effort. he wants us to learn to hate our sin. if he simply takes it away we gain no understanding.

Even so we in the body of Christ no longer see these people as sinners. They become my brothers and sister and I commit myself to aiding them in overcoming the sins in their life.

      2 Corinthians 5:16-18

Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now(Now that they are in Christ) all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

If your dear friend considers himself to be a Christian but continues to practice his gay relationships, he is not in Christ and he should not call himself a Christian.

If he is a christian man who has repented of that life style and no longer act on his sinful desires he is no different then me. He needs to cast off that old gay title and recognize that he is no longer the man he used to be.

      Hello, Abrushing.

You seem to be a talented writer, as well as someone who thinks.a good deal. I respect and admire both.

I am not Christian and consider myself atheist, though some I've had discussions with tell me I'm Daoist or something similar. In any case, the Bible is not my guide nor will it ever be, and I respect the rights of all people, including those who are LGBT.

I'm glad you said that "what they do outside the church is none of my business". Likewise, I say within the Church we non-believers have no right to comment. The problem arises when the Church and its followers try to force it's policies on those who dont agree. From what you wrote, it doesn't seem like you are one of those; I inferred that you think civil unions with full benefits from the gov should be allowed, even though you're personally against them. This is your right to consider so, no argument there.

But just as a commenter, allow me to say something. Consider happy gay and lesbian unions of a lifetime. How different are they really from the heterosexual ones? Especially those that are unhappy, and filled with grief and strife. Why not accept their lives and agree to disagree? I mention this because, though you said clearly you think the Church has boundaries, you still wrote this article.

I don't mean to imply that you don't have the right to, you have every right to, but I wanted to ask you to consider the effects. This writing itself is a push on LGBT individuals. If you believe that God will not welcome them because of their choices, you have every right to believe so. But do not "try to help them" or get society to do so. I have a gay Christian friend, and I know reading this beautifully written article would hurt him deeply.

Consider opening your mind and opening your heart, and making the world happier for everyone.

Judy it is an honor to have you stop by and comment. You said a lot of good things. I can hear your heart speaking. Thanks for adding to this Hub.

Homosexuality is a different kind of animal. Those who openly practice it really don't care what God thinks. If they did they would not be gay.

Those who struggle with it but never act upon their desires are few. Even so, if they acknowledge their desires are sin and refuse to cross that moral boundary If they embrace Christ and his teachings, If they serve him with a grateful heart motivated by their love for Him and His word, they are no different then the drug attic, alcoholic, thief, deceiver, or just your average everyday good natured sinner who come to Christ. They too are a new creation.

Take a moment and read Romans 1:18-32.

I caution all who read this post not to think Homosexuality is just another sin. It is a philosophy a religion that justifies rebellion against the laws of God,and destroys families. It is a type of worship or idolatry. It is the rejection of God's divine order.

God has handed them over to their carnal desires. He did not create them gay, they desired it.

      In Christ

ABO I have to agree with your post but I would like to add that some people may be struggling with homosexual desires and even practicing homosexuality knowing something is wrong and wish to be heterosexual. God knows mankind and our struggles with sin of all kinds so He has something in His word for those who are willing to try Him and His word over sin.

1st Corinthians 6: 9-11 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, "nor homosexuals", nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And "such were some of you". But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Obviously mankind has struggled with homosexuality and many other sins for 1000's of years, it is nothing new! But here God offers a way out through the Lord Jesus and the Spirit of our God...

I don't have anything personally against homosexuals I love the ones I know and think they are wonderful people! Christians who stand on God's word are in a tough position because to the secular world, not to accept ones choices like abortion, or not to allow or accept the practice of homosexuality are considered by the secular standards hateful, unloving and bigoted... Christians understand that God calls homosexuality sin because it brings consequences to humanity like A.I.D.S. causing premature death, and if everyone practiced it the human race would die out. We also understand that we all sin, and in reality, we as Christians are no better than homosexuals as far as God is concerned we are all the same! We all need a Savior, and that is why Jesus came to die on the cross to pay the price for the sins we all commit. Part of that salvation includes repentance which is a heart that chooses to turn away from the sins we practice including some of our own desires homosexuality being one of MANY and turn towards God's love and His saving grace! God has set the standards of what is right and wrong for humanity. The secular world is offended by God's standards and is trying to get rid of them! Secularists are working hard to make the word of God and Christians look bad. But in reality the word of God is TRUE and it will never be extinguish!!! By it's standards Christians should love homosexuals enough to speak it's truth in love. The truth we speak is hard for secularists to accept so Christians get called names, are put down and hated by the secular world which is exactly what God said would happen when we take a stand for His word as truth...

The World’s Hatred From Bible gateway

John 15:18-25 NLT Jesus speaking “If the world hates you, remember that it hated Me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted Me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to Me, they would listen to you. They will do all this to you because of Me, for they have rejected the One who sent Me. They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. Anyone who hates Me also hates My Father. If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate Me and My Father. This fulfills what is written in their Scriptures: "They hated Me without cause".

Notice it says "the world would love you as it's own if you belonged to it", the problem comes in when we choose God's word over sin and take a stand to do what is right... The secular world hates us for it and so we suffer their backlash just like Jesus did, this just confirms how active and living the Bible really is... And I have to say, "I'm in AWE of how AMAZING God's Word truly is, and how it doesn't miss a beat when it comes to the behavior of humanity"

I would ask you to go back and read this again. I made it clear that what they do outside the church is their business. I do not expect homosexuals to subscribe to Christian Doctrine.

I am glad you do not want to take Christianity out of the world. But there are a large number of Atheistic movement that are striving to do so. I have written a hub called "The Gettysburg Address: The Fear of God" That goes into that with detail. I would be honored if you read it.

"We believe calling their union marriage insinuates God's approval and acceptance. I, as a Christian, see it like this, the gay and lesbians are demanding that God accept their view of marriage" You see it wrong in my opinion. No one is asking for God to accept their views of marriage. However you are expecting them to accept your view of marriage. If they aren't married in a church and their vows never mention God, would you feel it was acceptable then?

As an atheist I have no desire to take Christianity out of the world. I do however want to know that people do not have to be negatively impacted by Christian views.

WOW! Lula I am sorry that you have had such a hard time with Christians. I hear your anger loud and clear, but I do not relate to it. My Christianity is about how I live and relate to God. It is not about how others live and relate to God. There are indeed those judgmental Christians out there. All I can do is try not to be like them. But here is the rub. I have subscribed to the biblical view of homosexuality, in so doing, I have declared gay and lesbian relationships to be wrong and named it a sin. Anytime I do so, all those who are practicing homosexuality will turn and call me judgmental. Not because I have treated them in a mean, judgmental, or intolerant manner but because I dared to condemn their actions by calling them sin. If I wish to be a Christian, I must agree with the Bible. If the Bible calls it wrong, I must call it wrong.

Jesus indeed loves unconditionally, but he also pointed out sin when he saw it he too subscribed to the Old Testament views. He did not ignore sin. Do you know the story where he, in anger removed the market from the temple? You are confusing his love of mankind for tolerance of sin. Again he hated sin, but loved the sinner.

The Bible is very reliable and every word is inspired. I agree we have to be careful what translation we use. Only a few are reliable. Students of the bible are very careful. God used men to write the bible, there is a human element. I don't see this as a problem. I have never understood the Bible to be a book without error, I view it as being inspired, God ordained and God breathed. The reliability of the bible is something I would have to speak to in another hub. But suffice it to say, it is not what you have described. Your criticism is over stated and reveals your anger.

This writing in no way promoted hatred or violence toward homosexuals. I was very clear that we are to be in attitude, godly. We must love the sinner but hate the sin. Yet it does call homosexuality a sin just as the bible calls it a sin.

Is a person born gay? I don't believe so. However, I believe we are all born with a natural propensity for sin. I believe that homosexuality is like all sin, in can come naturally if that perversion is cultivate by the individual. Like all sin, we are not to indulge the flesh, but are to rise above our sinful nature. Homosexuals have to choose to obey God just like the rest of us. It is as simple as that.

For me personally, Science tends to confirm my faith. I do not hide from it. Nor do I turn a blind eye to it. I look at what is being presented and chew on it and I consider it. If need be I amend my understanding of my faith. Truth set me free, why would I hide from it.

Lula thank you for reading my article. Even though we disagree, I am honored that you stopped by.

I do believe we do all have rights. And the Christians are not the only ones who worship God. And if you really did believe and are a doer in the words of the Christ, you don't judge. I feel like Christians are the most intolerant and unloving people I have ever met. Christ taught UNconditional love, funny most christians have to put conditions into their love. There are SOOOO many different versions of the Bible too, and if translated literally, there would be SOOO many holes because the original manuscripts are in pieces, and then man came a long to translate these Pieces of ancient text with missing words, cuz they were in pieces and FILLED in the holes with his own words. God's words inherent in this Bible? REALLY? I am sorry people are wasting their precious life breath screaming from the pulpits condemnation and judgement that they really don't have the right to hand out. Go back, read, PRAY and realize that we all are to be loved and given the same rights. No one chooses to be gay, that is scientific. OH I know, science and religion don't mix. But if you remember the dude that discovered that the earth was round was considered CRAZY, a heretic and put in jail. AND OH MY GOODNESS, he was right all along. If we aren't careful, these attitudes towards man kind no matter what orientation or color he or she may find themselves in, will cause serious harm, and needless panic, let's worry about feeding the poor, healing the sick, rescuing the needy, the hungry children. More time and energy in these Christ like actions would be warranted, but yelling and screaming about the gay folks being and abomination is just a SERIOUS waste of time.

      Here is the reality,

1.There is nothing respectful to be said about homosexuality. I make no apologies

      2. You have made a immoral choice to embrace your vile perversion. Your were not born that way.

      3. It does not matter what I or society thinks, What matters is, God's thoughts and perspectives?

      4. I wonder how far your justification will take you when you stand before the one and only true sovereign God whom you have rejected. Be sure to tell Him how unfair and intolerant He is. You are a fool if you think you can accuse God.

The truth is, you never cared about God or God's laws. At some point you made the conscious decision to reject Him outright and refuse to see Him as God. Therefore, He gave you over to your vile desires. You are without excuse. The evidence of God's love is all around you, and has been demonstrated to you countless times. Yet you refused to acknowledge it. You have traded the truth for a lie. Foolishly, you worship yourself as god.

This is actually very disrespectful in many ways. You insinuate and assume the same thing as that of society, that all gays fit into one outcast category. No all gays care to have a union of marriage, but freed from a sadistic race that gets pleasure of tormenting people who stray away from their ideal perception of what they believe to be correct. If your god does not praise those that are different, in something as simple as offering freedom to individuals who fight everyday to make a name for themselves in this world. Then your god gets no love for me, and has no place in this world :).

Thanks for stopping by and adding to this hub. I do appreciate your point. Indeed it is what God thinks and ordains that matters.

A clear distinction needs to be made between a church (small c) and The Church (Capital C) A church may compromise but The Church will never compromise. She will remain true to her husband and his ordained view of Family despite what the world does or thinks. The true bride of Christ id faithful. If we find ourselves in a church (small c)that compromises the Truth of God's Word then we would do well to find another church.

Go well my friend and thanks again for reading my stuff

The world is going to carry on in its sinful nature until Jesus Christ returns. The "church" will continue to compromise the word of God and concede to the anti-Christ spirit.

We are to be witnesses of Christ's love to all the world, including homosexuals. Through the acceptance of Jesus Christ, and by His grace, the sinner is transformed not by us, but by God. Many think they are extensions of the Gospel, but they are mistaken. The sinner does not change by our power, but by the power of Jesus Christ. We don't do the Gospel, because Jesus Christ has done it already, once and for all; we are to be witnesses of His work (the Gospel), not promoting ours.

The body of Christ (church) is not a four walled man-made building, but a chosen people. A four-walled building is man-made and the body of Christ is God-made. A gay marriage in a man-made "church" building is not the body of Christ, but a carnal human ceremony of un-transformed persons by a compromising apostate minister. A true follower of Jesus Christ does not compromise, but repents, contends, and protects their brothers and sisters from deception.

But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. 1 Peter 9-10

A follower of Jesus Christ who performs a gay marriage is simply in rebellion against God, compromised, and has become apostate if he/she does not repent. Unfortunately, many followers of Jesus Christ have fallen away and compromised for many different reasons, and will continue to do so, until Jesus Christ returns.

To compromise the Word of God within the body of Christ is simply rebellion. An unrepentant, continual, compromise leads to apostasy, which no longer equates to being a follower of Jesus Christ, but conforming to the sinful, carnal nature of the world.

We must show the love of Jesus Christ to the world because they are in need of a Savior. If they are not transformed by the grace of God, then they are not part of the body of Christ, but still a part of carnal mankind. We must contend against the rebellious nature that tries to infiltrate and compromise the follower's of Jesus Christ.

A gay marriage ceremony in a four-walled building is completely futile and impossible to come under the banner of God. The power of man cannot put himself under God's banner. We only come under His banner by the grace of Jesus Christ. The banner of sin and rebellion puts man in place of God.

Wonderful Word! The book "Slouching Towards Gomorrah" By Judge Robert Bork is a great look at what is going on. Written in 1996, Judge Bork was particularly prescient.

Thanks for your story. I enjoyed it thoroughly. :-)

Thanks Oscarwms- I think you are right. I have been hearing whispers of this myself. Thanks you for stopping by and for participating in this discussion. I am thinking about doing a Hud on the tax exemption status. Many churches today are abusing it.

      God bless you to

Great, great great hub. Could not have said it better myself. I like the part that says:the gay and lesbians are demanding that God accept their view of marriage in the same way Cain expected God to accept his offering of fruits and vegtables. I know the Churches will soon be called upn to marry same sex couples or lose there tax exempt status. One minister refuse to marry anyone at all so they could not say he is being discrimenitory. Well as a Pastor my self I would not go that far. I would just refuse and let God have his way. God bless my brother.

Thank you for this hub, it shines a bright light on the subject. Sadly, we as a country have numbed our conscience to sin. We as Christians are losing our freedom of speech/religion to the advancement of the left. You got a new fan today and God Bless.

Thanks Wehzo! I took the time to compare the family to the church and was blown away by the comparisons. It gave me a whole new appreciation and understanding.

The frog analogy is excellent! I know two frogs that will not be loosing Their legs!

      Hello Abrushing1968,

Another well written hub. I couldn't agree with you more. The subtle, and not so subtle, advances of this school of thought is heartwrenching. It's like the analogy of boiling a frog, it doesn't know that it is dying until it's too late. I pray that this hub be a loud warning to many, to not remain on the sidelines and become complacent in our stand and beliefs. Our faith must be exemplified in our behavior, words and, deeds. Well done!

      God Bless You

Seems familiar to the ages past

Jude:1:7: Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

ude:1:8: Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

      Go well
