Stuck On Stupid:Jim Crow(nesia)
GOP on Retro-Grade Stupidity
There's a laundry list of things to demonstrate the degree to which the GOP is disconnected from mainstream Americans. The first instance of this retro-grade stupidity, is the initial support of Tea Party (GOP) politicians and right wing media for Clive Bundy. A cattle rancher, who's cows have been grazing on federal land for the last 20 years without paying any grazing fees. On the surface it wouldn't appear to be be that bad, except for the fact that it's a federal crime.
Now to compound upon that sense of disconnectedness they supported Mr. Bundy, until they realized that he does not recognize the federal government's authority. But that wasn't the end of their support, until the buildup of anti-government nut jobs showed up armed to the teeth posing a potentially armed standoff with Federal Agents.
Sean Hannity didn't stray away from supporting Mr. Bundy, despite the facts that several courts had ruled against him in several trials. Thank goodness that cooler heads prevailed, to avoid another incident that could have led to unnecessary bloodshed and loss of life.
Jim Crow: Personified
Here's the kicker, the law breaking Nevada cattle rancher is a poisonous pill to the Tea Party (GOP) Politicians when he spouts racist rhetoric. The logic for this kind of rhetoric, is a definitive throw back to the Jim Crow Era. It's utterly repulsive to think that any African Americans would ever consider "slavery" as a better way of life for themselves. Or working for the likes of soon to be former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling who favors a plantation style of ownership.
What's really disappointing is that similar thoughts are prevailing through the halls of Congress, namely the Tea Party (GOP) Politicians and some of their proposed policies. For instance the recent comments of Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as well as his proposed House Budget. Including the Senate Republicans killing the bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. This misanthropic and dangerous thinking is leading to the downfall of this rein-visioned Tea Party, thereby staining the origins and principles of the Boston Tea Party movement.
This notion that the working / middle class has to much money and the top 1% doesn't have enough. The very idea of a smaller government with less regulation to allow the rich and powerful do whatever it takes to make their fortunes without regards to whom it may hurt, kill or maim is not only dangerous but goes against the very principle of our democratic government. A government of the people, by the people and for the people, to allow each and every citizen the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. As all of mankind are created equal by our creator in the eyes of the laws under the US Constitution.
A Sign of the Times in the Real World
The current Tea Party (GOP) agenda is so hell bent on making our nation's first African American President look bad or incompetent, that they're willing to throw the rest of the US population under the bus. Fact is, their efforts aren't working, the economy is growing albeit at a much slower pace than if the Tea Party (GOP) was actually trying to do the job they were elected to do.
Instead their obstructionist ways are not only hurting minorities, but all Americans in general. Take for example the aid to the long term unemployed, according to the House Ways and Means Committee. By the GOP's efforts to block the Jobless Aid, state budgets lost $400 million in one week. While I don't know each line item on each State's budget, but I am sure an extra $400 million would have help them handle their business of governing their state's economy, (i.e. repairing the local streets/roads or keeping Police Officers on patrol ensuring public safety). Those aren't strictly minority issues but preventative measures for the common good.
Further indications that the Tea Party (GOP) doesn't have the public interests at heart merely their own interests. Look at the fact that 92% of all Americans supported universal background checks, but the NRA said that it was impeding on our 2nd Amendment Rights so it was pushed aside into internal gridlock. Next, just about 7 out of 10 people supported raising the minimum wage again that was sidetrack by the GOP.
One might think that the fact over 27 million minimum wage workers getting a raise would be a good idea, because they'd have more money ($22 Billion) to pump into the national economy. But according to the Tea Party (GOP) way of thinking, it's totally wrong for America. For normal Americans living in reality, not a political fog it's a real NO BRAINER!! Wake Up America and use the collective common sense that has been inherently given to us by our creator!
