I really don't get this. Obama wants to give tax breaks to companies that create new jobs or buy new machinery...
Last time I checked, liberals were using that very principle as an argument against conservatives. Tax cuts don't create jobs.
So what is it? Do financial incentives work, or don't they?
Certain kinds of targeted financial incentives stimulate the economy. Tax breaks for the super rich have very little stimulative effect. Tax breaks for the poor have a much greater stimulative effect.
Ralph, this is tax breaks for all employers, rich and poor. Liberals usually rake conservatives over the coals for suggesting tax breaks for corporations.
Not to mention, it won't work. Giving a company a limited, 10% tax break for new hiring isn't going to create a million jobs. Employers want to know what the long-term costs are, taking 10% off the cost of hiring a new employee for a year won't do anything.
