Is physical force a justifiable method of punishing criminals?
Until we invent some better way to rehabilitate (or, as you suggest, punish) criminals, I don't think we as a society with a justice system have a choice. In the USA, we've got the Bill of Rights, and the rest of the world has certain treaties the UN could uphold, if it wasn't a joke.
Are you looking for someone to use physical force on that is justifiable? Try yourself and tell me if you learn anything.
