    my dad just passed he was in the army   between oct 1942 and was discharged other than honorable

    eligible for survivor benefits  would my mom be he was discharged in 1943

    Other than honorable? Did he get a general or a dishonorable discharge? If it was the latter, no beni's. If it was dishonorable don't be ashamed to say it, Walt Disney had one too!!  Peace!!

    Your mother may be eligible depending on the discharge. If it were me, I would physically go to the local VA office and find out. Good luck!

    You need to find his DD214. If you do not have it, you can request it.  The DD214 will show dates he served and his military record (including type of discharge). This can determine benefit eligibility. Because your mother may be considered a "surviving spouse", she may qualify to use his benefits. The restriction is that your mom needs to not have remarried.
