Why do Africa leaders hold on to power even though they are no longer wanted by the people?
Because those politicians have no morals or ethics. All they want is to stay in power, the longer the better. I think that they believe they won't get a chance to rule again. This is true for many third world countries even out of Africa.

The first reason is ego. They find it difficult to live like ordinary citizens once they have tasted power. They can no longer bear to live without the attention they get as leaders.
The second reason is their criminal tendencies. They want to steal as much money and make their cronies as rich as possible Getting out of office may open the way for a successor to investigate their fraud.
