    i understand why they do it but i think it is wrong all the same. when someone is deemed a person of interest, too many people will concider them guilty before they are even arrested.

    I think it depends on the circumstances.  Sometimes a person may be labeled as a person of interest in an attempt to include the public.  They might get tips from people that realize something they knew or saw might be related.
