Do you consider the United States to be generally, a nation of savers, or a nation of spenders?
I beleive the U.S. has been the biggest spender nation ever. But we are now realizing like our grandparents in the great depression knew all along, that "money don't grow on trees". We are all going to pay for our greed and stupidity but most of all our children will bear the brunt of it. May they forgive us our tresspasses. Peter
I think it is a little bit of both. We save and help people by spending money, or giving the money to them. Then usually they end up not liking us in the end.
Actually, the success of our economy requires that we spend spend spend. If people actually started saving, it would take time for the economy to adjust and there would be a rise in unemployment (though this is based on the assumption that the economy will eventually recover to around 5% unemployment, and then saving would occur after that).
But right now, we are definitely a nation of spenders!
