Why the double standards when it comes to things like homosexuality?
So when it comes to being gay, supporters argue its "natural", something innate. Although a matter of personal choice (no matter how much against cultural norms & religious values prevalent in most societies it remains) in my opinion would be a more logical argument. But when it comes to alcoholism, its considered a "problem", having some psychological basis.
My point is, isn't homosexuality also rooted in psychology? a habit that one might have acquired owing to the company & or circumstances. Why do some in the west just conveniently regard it as being natural? To affect legislation?
This is difficult to provide a complete answer for. I understand totally where you are coming from but you have to take in account how the "afflicted" parties are arguing their case. Most Homosexual activists argue that homosexuality is not a "choice" or "learned" behavior but rather a trait that was decided in their chemical make-up as early as conception.
Some Psychologist suggest it is a manifestation or projection of inner self inhibitions or short-comings; but I would think you would have a hard time finding a member of the gay community that supports that theory.
I don't think that labeling it as a "problem" or "ailment" would affect how it is legislated in western government. It is the unknown and the different and so it will take time for closed minds to fold open and accept it.
