A question for those receiving DSHS/Welfare services - what would you prefer....
A question for those receiving DSHS/Welfare services - what would you prefer, to get more free services, charity and money? Or to keep all of the money you earn and have the ability to gain your own resources?
As someone who has received in the past both medical and food assistance, I can honestly say. I would prefer if our government stopped with the handouts and instead allowed families to keep their income and provide for themselves. A sense of pride may be the root of this, but I honestly felt shame in seeking assistance when I had lost my position shortly after the premature birth of my son a little over four years ago.
When our country was founded, it was never the intent of the founders for us to be taxed to death. We were to have one tax, not many. I honestly believe that given the choice, most people would prefer to provide for their families without assistance. I know some people do abuse the system, but I refuse to believe that the majority of people would rather receive a handout than take pride in their hard work to provide for those they love.
