If church and state are separate why are religious beliefs relevant to the gay marriage amendment?
There are a lot of people who are driven by religious beliefs and don't want church and state to be separate. That's the whole reason gay rights has become a political fight.
Actually, this question is impossible to answer.
And the reason why is, nowhere in the U.S. Constitution does it say that there is supposed to be separation between church and state. What it essentially says is that state-sponsored religion should never be legalized or tolerated.
