Does anybody know of a photo ID a non-resident alien can apply for?
I'm uncomfortable bringing my passport as ID as it also contains my visa, and most places won't accept my Irish driving license as proof of identity. Does anybody know of any kind of photo ID card I could get?
To my knowledge there is not. Non-citizen residents in the United States may use their immigration documents as identification when applying for a job, requesting a driver's license, or conducting business. Legal immigration documents may include Certificates of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship, I-94 cards, Resident Alien Cards, visitor visas and student visas.
The state in which you are living might issue you a state ID. It would probably be issued by the Driver's License office. My son is legally blind and cannot drive, so no license. However, he does have the state ID. If you have your birth certificate with you, it will make the process a lot easier. If this or the suggestions from daskittlez69 do not work, you might, as a last resort, try the nearest Sam's Club. They issue photo IDs to the members. It would probably help you get a check cash, but would not get you through an airport gate.
You might look into getting an International Driver's License. Or, alternatively, you might apply for a replacement passport, and, in the future, keep your visa and any travel stamps separate from your passport. The state ID from the driver's license office is a possibility, too, if you meet residence qualifications in the state.
