Are England, Britain/Great Britain and the U.K. (United Kingdom) absolutely synonymous?
Do they mean and/or identify the same entities? Geographically? Politically? Even culturally and/or ethnically? If not, how are they differentiated in all of these aspects, and in other ways/on other axes I may have missed?
From what I understand Britain / Great Britain and UK are not the same. Great Britain and Northern Ireland together form the United Kingdom, where great Britain is England, Wales and Scotland put together.
The United Kingdom has 4 countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. England is a part of Great Britain and one of the countries in the United Kingdom.
