Do you think "democracy" is the best form of government in terms of individual freedom?

Or do you know of other forms of government that would also work for the masses but give us more individual freedom?

I'm eager to read and answer all of your responses!

I believe in democracy as a form of government to best represent our indvidual rights, beliefs, and expression.

So, you think there is no better alternative?

I do not believe that there is a better form of government other than democracy.  I believe in democracy representing the rights of the people.

The dead white men who started the US government considered democracy but rejected it as too unstable and dangerous. The worst of all tyrannies is the tyranny of the majority, and that's what democracy is. They settled instead on a federal republic. Not that we've done a good job at keeping that form of government alive and healthy, but that's what they chose, their first concern being liberty.

Thank you for your inspiring comment. Your quote "The worst of all tyrannies..." will stay in my head for a long time I suppose.

But: Do you perhaps have an alternative idea of "the best form of government"?

Benign totalitarianism is the best. The problem is it never lasts, usually not for more than a few hours. That leaves a republic of limited, dispersed powers, which is what the United States was designed to be but abandoned along the way.
