Who are the indigenous people of Russia?
Most of Russia lies is Asia but the population is white-european-caucasian. Are there indigenous Asian tribes in Russia? Are they still around or are they worse off than American Indians. Do they resemble Inuit (Eskimo)?
In the east, you have a Mongolian-like people who closely resemble Inupiats and Inuits. They're basically Huns who never crossed Russia and invaded Europe. What is now Russia was originally populated by various Mongolian, Hunnic, Turkish, Persian and other horse cultures of the vast steppes who emerged from passes to the south and east. From the Caucasus region emerged the lighter-skinned Scythian and Sarmatian people who settled along the Don and Dneiper, but who were almost entirely wiped out or intermixed during the eastern Mongolian invasions. These mixed groups living in western Russia are the Tatars. But in addition to this, there has been considerable immigration from Prussian and the Germanic states, as well as Norse settlements, into western Russia in past centuries. The style and government of Western Russia was borrowed from the Byzantines: the Greco-Roman society and government that served as the last vestiges of the old Roman Empire. These elements were mixed with the steppe cultural traditions to form a sort of Russian culture today.
