Should mannequins be removed from store windows to lessen the crimes against women in India?
Mumbai's local government wants to ban all mannequins that have lingerie on them from store windows in Mumbai to reduce or eliminate rapes and sexual crimes. Many are outraged that the focus isn't on the perpetrators of these crimes instead.
I'm not from India, but that doesn't sound like it's going to accomplish much. Lower the sales figures for lingerie, maybe, but other than that, nothing. The "many who are outraged" would seem to have it right.
In fact, that's about as silly as our own Mayor Bloomberg of New York City banning large soda drinks to combat obesity.
Your examples of sales of lingerie and soda are excellent comparisons and the hit that the lingerie sellers will take is one of the reasons they are fighting back. Most of them see this as some distraction that doesn't address the actual crimes.
Yeah, that sounds like a pretty stupid non-solution to me..
what a nonscence? It can change nothing. That's not a solution at all.
I fully agree, it's sad that this is distracting them from the real criminals. People there are quite angry and insulted that this is even being discussed as a valid route to lessening these horrific crimes against women.

Should Social Workers be the ones who investigate in home Child Abuse instead of the police? And if so, shouldn't the Child Welfare workers be in the Department of Law Enforcement instead of the Department of Economic Security?
