How do you feel about States that allow conjugal visits for those who have committed heinous crimes?
New Mexico will soon end conjugal visit opportunities for all prisoners, leaving a total of 3 States that allow the practice - New York, California and Washington state. Historically, prisons that participate in these visits allow all prisoners opportunity of earning the visits on merit of "good behavior". Do you approve of conjugal visits for those convicted of heinous crimes, such as murder, rape and torture? Should the opportunity just be limited to those convicted of non-violent crimes? Or does the whole practice seem to you a slap in the face to victims of crime?
I am on the fence on this one. On one hand, I don't think convicted criminals should be rewarded with luxuries for good behavior. Another approach might be to take away basic necessities for bad behavior. On the other hand, perhaps these visits help to create a safer work environment for prison guards.
Punishment is punishment. Why should felons not have top do with out?
These visits have been known to be problems for the prisons. Often females hide drugs and other contraban deep in their vaginas etc.Their partners then use or sell what is brought in.
