What is the purpose of China building islands?
Why does the US seem to have a problem with that?
Expansion of power and intimidation of their neighbors. Why else would they bother. It's either for oil/gas or a military base. And in the case of the Spratly Islands, it's both.
I'm all for China trying to become an economic power, but I draw the line at them becoming a true military superpower. They already have nuclear weapons. We must contain them as much as we can. It's in our best interest until they can become a true democracy (if ever). Honestly, after Islamic terrorism, they are our biggest threat in the region.
1. Have a legitimate reason to have ships in that area, to visit or patrol the new land
2. Extend their economic zone and fishing interests around those islands
3. Have military infrastructure in the region that they control entirely, unlike us having a base in Japan at their whim

Should the U.S. be worried that China is massively building up their military right now?China is building up their military at a greater rate than Hitler did prior to WW2. China's military is as technologically advanced as ours.
