In my view one has very little relationship to the other. A patriot has love of country and a desire to protect the nation and its citizens from harm. A politician has a love of self, and will go to great lengths to protect his or her stay in politics.

can a politician be in attraction to his service without patriotism?

The patriot is dedicated to his country and will die for it while the politician is dedicated to his career and advancing it anyway possible.

A politician is leader in state, senate, congress, or president. A patriot is someone who lives, breaths, and believes in his/her country no matter the state it is in, and would do anything for their country.  Not an exact definition, but close enough.
