Hi!  So I've had my first and last shoplifting experience.

I was caught by LP shoplifting from a grocery store in Chicago. I was taken to a back room where in was asked for my ID, address, phone number, had my picture taken and was asked to sign a paper stating inwas apprehended and would not return to their store. Police were not involved. I returned merchandize taken, apologized and was allowed to leave. I was not told I would be sent anything in the mail or given any documents/papers
My question is will I be send a civil demand or can I put this behind me ?

I heard of a store (perhaps K-mart, can't remember) that would let shoplifters go without police intervention--if they paid the store $250 (regardless of the value of the stolen goods) and signed a contract agreeing to never set foot in the store again.

Anyway, this just goes to show crime doesn't pay. If they told you nothing would be sent, you should be fine now. Don't let the leniency lead you to believe stealing is okay.

If the store didn't involve the police then I wouldn't sweat it. They just wanted to scare you straight.
