Should we close the southern border temporarily until Congress makes real and effective changes to the immigration laws? Or, should we just open them totally to anyone who wants to come in? It's time we had a real discussion on illegal immigration, migration, and non-citizens rights and roles in the United States.
I'd like to hear your thoughts and ideas on the how, what, why, when, etc. and what the possible consequences that could occur. Immigration is not a Democrat or Republican issue - it affects all American citizens, so don't turn the discussion into a punching-bag session.
We can't close the border. All we can do is close legal entry points and I'm not certain that would solve the growing problem.
I hear Mexico claims there is a 20,000 strong caravan forming and I hear the border is so overwhelmed we have started, again, to practice catch and release. I think, at this juncture, we should accept no applications for entry from anyone on that border, until the situation can be gotten under control.
This is a coordinated assault on our immigration process.
So true and don't you wonder who is organizing it. Just who is behind it?
I have to laugh when all you hear is what economic damage closing the border will cause to our economy (which is booming thanks to Trump) but NOBODY is explaining how badly that would hurt Mexico! That's what should be in the media, they should be helping Trump not dissing him when we are dealing with national security!
Trump says a lot of things and if you know anything about him and the history of things like this he has said it's all part of a negotiation, his way of negotiating. The media slants anything he says like dealing with N. Korea, bringing home our troops, Mexico into he's going to end life as we know it all the while knowing it's strategy, bluster, rhetoric, things he thinks he needs to say or do to get the result he is after and they know he will never do anything that won't make America great! That's why they hate him, they hate America.
If he did close the entry points of the border I guarantee you it would hurt Mexico more than us, we could survive but Mexico would die under the weight of all these illegals stuck in their country and no trade with America. That's why Mexico will aquiesce to Trump's demands!
I think that closing the border is a move far too encumbered with economic downsides. Also, unless Trump is willing to put enough manpower on the border to intercept those who would then try to enter between POE, closing the border might make things worse.
... unless Trump will miss guacamole on his refried beans, like the rest of us!
Actually, I would consider it my patriotic duty to go without.
My question is: Trump had a great idea
and he proclaimed he would close the border, so why did he change his mind?
it irritates me that Trump would go back on what he proclaimed so boldly.
Don't say it
If you can't stand behind it.
Gosh!
the surge of human beings is already wreaking havoc on most of the border towns - at least the Senate is having hearings on the crisis today.

The only other way to pay for this wall is with our own hard earned tax dollars. So this question becomes a very...

On immigration:But there are some areas that the federal government should not leave and should address and address strongly. One of these areas is the problem of illegal immigration. After years of neglect, this administration has taken a strong stand to stiffen the protection of our borders. We...

Explain how Trump's Wall will be different from the Berlin Wall or the Wall in Israel. How will it "keep us safe"?
