St Valentine was a Christian Martyr who as a priest in Rome was murdered around 269 AD. His relics are located at the Whitefriar Street Carmalite Church in Dublin. They were presented as a gift to the Carmalite Order from Pope Gregory xvi in 1835. I guess that is why Irish is so romantic.
