Supreme Court sides with Catholic foster agency

    How will this impact foster care in the United States?

    "The Supreme Court sided unanimously with a Catholic foster agency in a dispute against the city of Philadelphia over whether it should be banned from participating in the city's foster program because it excludes same-sex couples.

    The group, Catholic Social Services (CSS), claimed that "Philadelphia’s attempts to exclude the Catholic Church from foster care" violated the First Amendment. Lawyers for the city, meanwhile, said that CSS "lacks a constitutional right to demand that DHS offer it a contract that omits the same nondiscrimination requirement every other FFCA must follow when performing services for the City."

    In a 9-0 ruling, the justices sided with Catholic Social Services."

    I am very happy about this decision.  CSS's First Amendment rights have been protected.
    Their rights are the top priority surrounding this issue. To complicate it by considering how it  impacts foster care in general is troublesome to me.

      Since this is a SCOTU decision, it will be used as a precedent.  I can only imagine how this will impact other areas of religious protection.

        ... which other freedoms? to what effect?

        (I would say to good effect, In regards to this issue.
        There is a choice: to not associate with agencies who are not protective of the children they place and willingly cater to those who don't mind if two people of the same sex adopt and parent a child.

        For instance: I do not consider such an arrangement psychologically beneficial for any child. Nature designed it a certain way and I believe a child needs a mother and a father. I would choose to place my child with an organization which believes the same. Thank goodness I would have such an option.

    On the face, it's a  correct decision. Since the decision was 9-0 I don't think anybody can question it.

      You are correct, but I believe there will still be those who so question it.  This decision is a huge win for religious freedom.
