New legislation aimed at strengthening garda (Irish Police) powers when investigating white-collar crime comes into effect today 9/8/2011.
The Criminal Justice Act 2011 has been fast-tracked by the Government in response to difficulties faced by gardaĆ investigating complex cases.
Justice Minister Alan Shatter says this new legislation is an important step in ensuring that white-collar criminals are vigorously pursued.
