Is Youth REALLY wasted on the young?

Updated on June 02, 2011

IF ONLY

If only people cared,

If people would ´Wake UP!´

If apathy were dead,

And all the world Shake Up!

...............................................

If only l had known,

If only you had cared,

We´re just like all the rest,

Of change we were too scared.

.................................................

Yet, change is needed badly,

If only we knew how,

To solve just ONE world problem,

And DO IT! Solve it NOW!

...................................................

Then , maybe we could try

To fix another thing,

And one by one eliminate,

The troubles, now, life brings.

..................................................

If only we were young again,

And know what we know now,

Could we start a ´movement´?

And show the young ones HOW?.

.....................................................

How to make the changes,

Without a fire being shot.,

How to feed the hungry,

And be grateful for OUR lot.,

...............................................

Young, Healthy, Beautiful,

A distant memory,

For you and me, so be it.,

but teach young ones to feel free,

......................................................

If only they could learn from us,

Not make the same mistakes,

Looking at our ´leaders´now,

Learn genuine from FAKES.,

...............................................

The young will do their best,

As we did what we could,

What we thought was right,

Did what we thought was good.,

................................................

If only, they´re encouraged,

To care for Mother Earth,

There´s hope for generations

Ahead to show their worth.

.............................................

If Only.....................

Odd that this poem makes me think of a line from a Christmas song:

'What is this illusion called the innocence of youth. . . '

This from someone who is always inspired by younger people standing up and getting inolved. . .

A stunning poem and oh SO true. If only we would listen to our elders. In general we don't realise that their advice was sound until we have grown up ourselves. I loved the flow to your poem. Voting up and pressing your buttons. Loved it!

I am loving this poetry from you today. And I smiled at the title too. I wrote a poem slightly similar too it in name...heh. But you have taken a much more serious subject and pondered so many questions. And the Young must respond, or at least think about these great things that will affect us all in the future.

....well there is nothing that you ever write that is wasted on me - your 'youthful' attitude and approach to writing is keeping the epi-man young (and grateful) too!

Beautiful Dim. Our "systems" are now more corrupt than the people who run them. The honest do not last long in this present arena of politics/government/corporations. God bless!

Dim dearest, I must have forgotten this one. How could I have? This poem needs publishing as all your poems.

      Keep up the good fight.

Let's just continue to the light.

Can we point the way for a few?

What can a few words do?

If we make the path brighter,

The load will be much lighter.

There must be a brighter day.

      Confusion will be taken away.

Thank you for sharing your poetic gifts with us. Alas, utopian dreams are just that. But we can help one starfish if we will. And it will matter to it. :D

Dim, this expresses so much truth and has no doubt applied to every generation through time but we are at a point now where things are different. You are quite right. It is not just a pretty wish for things to be different - if there are to be any future generations we must stop destroying everything around us right now. I read something the other day that made a great deal of sense. It was about our arrogance in assuming we could possibly destroy the planet - of course we can't. The planet will be just fine after a few years. It is humanity that will be gone unless we learn to 'stop, look, and listen'. Isn't it odd how many true teachings happen in kindergarten? ;-)

Hi Silvergenes. Thank you for such a wonderful comment.

You´re right..... the earth will be here long after humans if we´re not careful.

      Take care
