Should a ten year old be allowed to hunt with a gun?
Wisconsin passed a law allowing ten year old to hunt with their fathers. I believe this too young. They are not mature enough. I think 13-14 year olds would be fine if their father was in control.
Shouldn't parents have the freedom to decide when their children are ready for different experiences? As long as a child is taught the proper safety, there is little risk, and either way it is not the government's job to protect us from ourselves.
My way of thinking is that children are playing with video games. After killing millions of aliens, monsters, and terrorists, to have that same child not to do ta, ta, ta, ta, through the woods would be huge.
As a mother of 2 boys and a girl, I believe that if the child is taught the proper safety measures, and given the proper way to fire the firearm then age should not be a matter at hand. Although I do believe the child needs to be mature enough to understand exactly what is being taught, this might be at an early age for those that are more advanced, and others it might be older - say teenage years. After discussing this with my husband, and himself being a hunter, we came to the conclusion that our sons will learn first how to clean the deer or animal and package them for freezing before actually going out and killing. We do hunt for pleasure but we eat what we kill, which is another valuable lesson that we will teach our children when they are mature enough to understand.
Yes 10 is more than old enough. I had my first .22 at 10 I started hunting with adults even younger. Who better to teach a 10 year old to hunt than his father. Hunting & fishing are without a doubt one of the greatest bonding experiences a father & son can have. And who better to teach moral and ethical values of consumptive use of natural resources than the parents.
The ten year old should be taught to how to use and to respect guns first. Once that's been done, they should only be allowed to hunt with a gun under close adult supervision until while time they've demonstrated they can handle themselves and the gun in a mature manner.
To understand this subject and to get some proportion and background it is recommended to see the Personal page of old days African Game Hunter

But we have to remember- it is forbidden since 1975 to hunt in East Africa !!

This is huge and if the cour rules as I suspect will be an affirmation of liberty as the...
