Do You Recognize the Early Warning Signs?

Updated on August 9, 2009

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE KICKED OURSELVES IN THE ASS AND ASKED OURSELVES WHY WE FELL FOR THE TIRED OL' SCHEME AGAIN? WE ARE NO BETTER THAN THE PERPETRATOR IF WE KEEP OPENING OURSELVES UP FOR VICTIMIZATION AND NOT RESPECTING OURSELVES! THIS IS FOR THE LADIES, BUT IT CAN GO FOR MEN TOO!

WARNING: very graphic footage...

The Beggining of the End

  • they try to isolate you from your family, friends, or others that are important to you

  • they refuse to meet your family, friends, and those who are important to you

  • they yell, intimidate, belittle, curse, and blame you for everything

  • coerce you into doing things against your will

  • argumentative

  • always goes off the deep end

  • punches holes in walls, inability to control their emotions

  • violent tendencies

  • often intimidates you

  • never invites you to their home

  • refuses to introduce you to their friends and family

  • obsessed with his image and status symbols (car, house, boat)

  • spends hours and hours  perfecting his image because he believes it is essential to his survival. He only feels alive and in control when he is obsessing about these things

  • he comes on strong at the beginning. He has a need for the relationship. He will text and call frequently, but later begins to lose interest for "something new"

  • overly controlling or overly possessive early on

  • craves attention and if he doesn't get it, he feels dead inside

  • wants to be with someone who will cater to his needs and stroke his ego.

  • he lacks empathy

  • his main feelings are: fear and rage

  • he lives in his own reality and sees others as nothing more than objects around him

  • he can easily mimic emotions and fake empathy in order to hide all of this from you. When he is tired or hungry, his true colors come out

Think You Have Heard All About This Tired Ole' Subject Already?

  •  steer clear of the super-ambitious guy. Life is short. It's a wonderful thing to have a guy with gusto. But, if he's trying to tackle 10 agendas at once, there's no way you can fit into that equation!
  • Don't give into presents too quickly into the relationship. Believe me, it's nice, but rings and flowers don't comfort you in times of need.
  • early talk of how great you are is awesome! But if you guys have only dated for a few weeks, and he acts like you have real estate on the moon, WATCH OU!
  • likewise, if you have to contantly validate him, even in bed, realize that is not yourjob. This sort of pressure should be left at work and not in your relationship!

Great list of tell tale signs and this message cannot be repeated enough and loud enough for the women (and yes, men too) to hear. Perhaps proactive education for our younger ones in society would be a good start to help avoid and prevent some situations. Again, applaud for speaking boldly, clearly and loudly.

you have such wide ranging concerns or interests, I guess it must be because of your line-of-work- clearing up the mess made by others. You're doing something really positive with the experiences you've been through and witnessed on an almost daily basis.Experiences and sights that would make gibbering wrecks out of most people. Keep up the good work.
