Fun First Dates

Updated on January 5, 2014

First dates can be fun but nerve wracking too. You’ve been talking to someone online for awhile and have finally decided to meet offline for a first date to see if sparks will fly.

Only trouble is where to go on a first date. As a woman you worry about your safety. Sure you’ve been chatting online to this guy but how well do you really know him? Not well enough!! That’s why the best meeting places for first dates should be somewhere public; preferably during daylight hours with other people around. In this way if you need to get away in a hurry you can do it.

There are many good places to try but I’ve chosen to list 5 of them here.

  • Coffee Shop

Take your pick there are so many of them. Most of them won’t care if you sit there for an hour or more as long as you buy something. Buy yourself coffee while you wait. The good thing is that you didn’t commit to a meal. You can excuse yourself and go at any time if you do not like the other party after checking him out. If he's cool then you can have a good chat to see if he matches what he's been saying online. Then you can even arrange another meeting if all goes well.

  • Bowling/Mini golf

It’s a little more involved but it fits into public and safe. Here’s where you’ll find out if you have things in common. You can have fun and be a little competitive with each other. You have the opportunity to laugh and take the pressure off.

If he’s beating you in the game, is he teasing you in a good way or is he mean spirited? Does he give you a chance to catch up? If it’s your first time playing, does he offer to show you?    Is he paying attention to you? It’s still a first date after all.

Think about it guys you get to touch her, respectfully of course, in the name of showing her how not to get a gutter ball.

  • Amusement Park/Arcade

Going to an amusement park or an arcade is twice the fun in my book. I’ve gone to an arcade for a first date and we had a blast. All of the awkwardness is forgotten as you have fun giggling with each other over the game. The conversation comes easily and naturally when you’re enjoying yourself.

While you’re playing the game does he stick around or does he go off on his own? What type of games is he choosing? Is it for one or two? Remember he’s still on a date with you.

  • Library

Remind me why I chose this one? I don’t know. It seemed like a good idea at the time. It’s a cheap date for sure. It’s probably boring but you can still get a table at the back and chat about your favourite authors or sports. You get to see another side of him. You also get to see how flexible he is and whether he’s quick to nix your ideas. Put it like this, if he likes you he won’t give a hoot where you ask to meet because he’s into you.  As one of my fellow hubber on here mentioned, it makes him behave(the library), although there's a lot of trouble some people can get into anywhere.

  • Play Pool

Playing pool is another fun activity to do with someone. You can have a good conversation while enjoying yourselves. Plus he can show you his skills or maybe you're the shark.

Again the first date is all about having fun, staying safe and yet getting to know each other a bit more. If after you’ve gone on a date to one or more of these places you might decide that he’s not the guy for you. It can work either way. The object is to go with an open mind.

Are you Single?
