Stuck in a Rut? The Secret Out: Stop Making Excuses

Updated on May 29, 2013

People make excuses for all kinds of things, hell, anything and everything for that matter. What it truly boils down to is uncertainty and insecurity about yourself. Insecurity and fear of life on life’s terms prompts some of the most ridiculous stories and rationalization in the world. How else can you explain the absurdities that seem to plague some people...and if guilty, yourself.

Excuses Excuses

Its just not my time right now, or everything happens for a reason, or I’m just in a rut. We know we’re doing it even as we’re saying it….turning our back on action. Its inaction that we try to justify, with little sayings or stories that sound like tremendous obstacles that no one could overcome, so how can we? Remarkable. Yet time and time again, over and over again, the same patterns emerge. Excuses for being just who we are because we aren’t doing anything to be who we want to be.

We all fantasize and dream of the life we want, but very few people take action towards their goals. I’ll get to it tomorrow, or I’ll start January 1st. These same people will spend hours and hours, day after day saying all of the things that sound so good, but when you ask them what they did today, or how it’s going….its fair, ok, I’m tired.

We're at Our Best, When We're at our Worst

Watch what happens when tragedy strikes. When pressed against the wall with real genuine obstacles and instinct kicks in, we act. Why and where the disconnect between that instinct and conscious living occurs is beyond me. But recognizing that your life isn’t going anywhere and listening to the stories trying to package the same ol song and dance into something other than reality to justify and rationalize a mediocre life does little to change the picture.

At the end of the day, you’re judged by your actions over time. If all that’s happening in your life is nothing, the only one to blame is yourself. Time to take action! But more often than not, the action taken is to do nothing but sit in self made cages waiting for the mystery of life to do it for you. These same people with endless excuses typically all have the same patterns in life. Its sleep in late, waste away the day in thought, run ‘errands” as if that is living, clean, complain that they are in a rut, stay up late as if they just need more hours in the day and then repeat the process all over again.

And its these same people who seem to always be victims. The truth is, they victimize themselves by setting up a cycle that breeds nothing but well, nothing. And they draw people to themselves who are in just the same ruts. Misery loves company. So now it looks even more like life is just stacked up against them, providing yet another excuse to push off life. Something’s in the air…or there is just a strange energy to the day…its hard not to laugh at the intangible elements that people grasp towards to justify a helpless existence. Yet counterintuitive to the “energy” of the world, its conveniently overlooked that we ourselves create our own energy. Failing to accept that we have self-will and no matter what “energy” is keeping you down, you have overriding power in abundance to make it different. To live a better life.

Its not even about knowing what to do, because they’re experts at knowing what not to do. So simply put, if you’re looking for a solution to change your life, to stop making excuses and become who you want to be, here’s the secret. Stop doing what you’ve been doing and do something different. Anything. Anything at all. What you've been doing clearly hasn't worked.
