Why People Prefer Online Dating Over Traditional Dating

Updated on March 13, 2013

For most people, this form of dating was only done by freaks, by extremely old people, and geeks who couldn’t do anything better with their lives.

But today, online dating has earned its rightful and more acceptable status: it can be everybody’s business. Online dating has become more than just signing up on dating sites; social media sites like Facebook has created couples out of strangers from across the world as well.

To some, it is an option – something that they might or might not do. To others, it is their preferred mode of meeting people for possible relationships. Why? Here are some of their common reasons:

1. Online dating is generally less expensive than traditional dating.

It makes it possible for people to go and meet other people without having to dress up or pay for some fancy dinner. You don’t even have to spend on gas for a torturous half hour of boring date! And who says anything about having to dress up? Just put on a decent and honest profile picture and you could be Mr Debonair or Ms Irresistible even in your pajamas!

With just a few dollars on monthly subscription for dating sites, the opportunities of meeting people are by far larger than actually sitting in a bar for $50 on drinks waiting for the next cute guy or damsel in distress.

2. Online dating presents wider opportunities for meeting other people.

You can be in front of your PC in Arkansas and be dating a fabulous girl from New York, Thailand or the Philippines. Or better yet, you can be in front of your PC in Arkansas and be talking to a fabulous girl from New York, then another from Thailand, and in an hour, a girl from the Philippines, afterwards, a girl from Brazil or Italy or maybe even Timbuktu! The possibilities are endless in online dating!

This is the reason why online dating is more popular for people who are looking for foreign lovers. They do not need to go further than their PC to enjoy meeting people from halfway across the world

3. Online dating makes it easier for people to present themselves.

With online dating, you are spared the jitters and nerves of talking to a girl or guy on a date – or at least until you decide to meet up. And in some sites that use a matchmaking algorithm, you are connected to people who are of the same interest as you.

For honest individuals, dating online allows for them to introduce themselves through their personalities. People who are not too confident about their looks could find more confidence in finding someone who would like their personalities. And they actually find people with tastes and interests as they – no matter how weird they seem to themselves!

Indeed, online dating has changed the whole field of dating for the last two decades. And for people who found real love for online dating, it changed their lives forever.

I do question whether there was on line dating in 1993. I think maybe about by 1998.

My wife and I met online for business. Then visiting our office in her country I met her. Then we finished the project and kept everyday on the Internet. Two years later we were married. Ten years later we are celebrating along with our son. Good luck to all.
