    I would say it is neither curiosity, nor is it boredom.  Boredom is mother of apathy... You may die prematurely of loneliness, depression and disconnectedness and un-fulfillment.

    "Saving a cat" is a sign of our conservatism, "don't venture and you won't be hurt".  But if we did not venture, we would have stayed in caves still.

    Cats on the other hand are cautious enough to remain cats until now.
