Have you ever had an intense conversation on an airplane with a random stranger you never saw again?

I think yes, its strange, how people seem to hook up with strangers; friendship for a couple of hours and it stops

I can't say that I have ever had an intense conversation, but I have definitely had some pointless conversations, if that counts.  Speaking of random--this question seems a bit random.

I have. Some people just like to talk to take their mind off how unpleasant it is to fly these days. But not everybody.

I sat next to a woman just the other week who initially seemed at least ambivalent when I said to her, "Shall we talk? I've found flights can go more quickly if you strike up a conversation with someone."

Slowly closing the book she’d just opened, she said, "What would you like to discuss?"

"Oh, I don't know, how about the European financial crisis?"

"OK, that could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first.

A horse, a cow and a deer all eat grass. The same stuff. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, a cow dumps flat patties, and a horse produces dried clumps of grass. Why do you think that is?"

“I have no idea”, I admitted.

“Well then”, she asked me, “how is it that you feel qualified to discuss a vexed topic like the European debt crisis, when clearly, you don’t know shit?"

    Then she re-opened her book.

Ok, I lied, that happened to someone else, but there are plenty of just as interesting stories, (if you don't get entertained enough by answers to your question) here, http://writeronline.hubpages.com/hub/En … okingRight

Yes. Strangely, I don't remember what it was about now. I just remember the gentleman, a Ukrainian heading back to Kiev. He spoke plain (American) English and was most unassuming. He seemed to know so much about things familiar to me and my society. It was all too interesting. I wish I could have flown on to Kiev.

I have! More than once; those can be the best conversations...when you know you're never going to see that person again; you can disclose whatever is on your mind.

Absolutely.  On 8,000 mile journeys across vast oceans, you tend to strike up a conversation with the person next to you, at least eventually.

I've had some odd conversations with people ranging from all-out white supremacists (yowza) to Syrians who listen to American "rock 'n' roll" music, to you name it.

I absolutely love traveling.  I love to people-watch, and meet new people.  The way I see it is, though we'll never meet again, I'm living life to its fullest.  You never know what you'll learn from someone, and I value everyone's input in my life.
