How I Celebrated 20 Years With My Wife

Updated on May 28, 2015

What I tried to plan over several years came together in days.

Yes that's right I said days. I had been trying to plan for at least three years of ways to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.

I would get a bit here and there but nothing concrete.

The harder part was that an idea would come into my head and I would use it for something else.

Well here it is the final month. And as usual the ideas started to pop up when I needed them.

As you read through this page you will see that there are five different things that I had done for this celebration.

Believe it or not the first week was here on Squido. But I am getting ahead of my self. So please read on and enjoy just as we have the last twenty years together.

Week One

August 1 - 3, 2012

That's right I created a website for my wife. Its based on the number of times it took me to propose to her. I'd had this ready for about two weeks before I transferred it over to her. She then went through and corrected the spelling and added in a couple of her own comments.

Week Two

August 6 - 10, 2012

This time I worked on her computer and provided chocolate bars.

Here is the break down.

Her hard drive had crashed beyond repair. I had a friend at work who had an extra hard drive and gave it to me. (Free is good) I was able to spend the next two nights reinstalling Windows XP onto the laptop. This included the program, the updates and the different programs that she uses on a regular basis.

Chocolate is always good. I have another friend at work who sells chocolate bars for his church as a fund raiser. Being that this was our 20 year anniversary there were 20 bars of chocolate acquired.

Next I created a back ground that said I like you more than a computer covered in chocolate.

I then set the chocolate bars on top to cover the laptop. On top of that was a blanket to cover the whole thing.

The next day I let the wife know that the computer was ready and on the dining room table just waiting for her. At that point I hopped into the shower. A few moment later she pops in and asks, What should I do with the chocolate. My response was move it to the side and start up the computer. Again Back to my shower. Again there is a knock at the door. This time she had read the back ground on the desktop and came up to thank me and give me a kiss.

And finally at this point she still doesn't see that I am working towards the 20 year anniversary. If she did she has not said anything to me.

Week Three

August 13 - 17, 2012

There were roses. 20 to be exact. Its not easy to get an exact number that isn't in the dozen amount. Sometimes they will do the bakers dozen but that is 13 not 20.

So there were two dozen roses and four more than needed. I am not one to throw thing out. So instead I paid our auto insurance bill. And there were four people there. How convenient. Again its amazing how when you reach out to bless one person how that can spread.

Any ways when I got home I brought the roses in and gave them to my wife. She brought out a vase and put in the water and counted them as she placed them. There were twenty. You could see a light go off in her head as she was saying aren't they usually in a dozen? It was at this point her mind clicked and she realized what I had been doing for the last three weeks. Well sort of. The question was is this about our anniversary? So I went back to week one and asked what was the web site was about and then how many candy bars there were for week two? The lights definitely went on.

Below you will also find a link to a new lens/site that I created while doing up this one. Its amazing what will come into you head when you are trying to do something for your wife.

Week Four

August 20 - 24, 2012

Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?

OK I do. This is chocolate cake and I don't like chocolate cake. The wife however... This is for her.

Once again it was the moment not the planning ahead that came forth for this one. I had gone to get the roses and since I was shopping for other things the first place I usually went was the bakery. I saw a cake with some rose frosting. Lights went off. and an idea was born. I had two different folks helping with the design. I let them know what I wanted and they made it happen.

I brought the cake home with a pint of triple chocolate ice cream. I then headed off to work. When I got home later in the evening it was all but gone. Just the wording in the center was still there. I'd say the wife and kids enjoyed themselves.

As a side note the wife now has another background that she can use on her computer.

Week Five

August 27 - 31, 2012

Dinner anyone?

Red Lobster for my wife and I. No kids. Ooh imagine that. Is it possible. Could it be? Yes and not just because they had moved out. Which at this point they have not.

Well this one was one of the first things that was on the list for our anniversary. And yet it didn't come into the picture until later in the month.

On our anniversary I had to take one of our kids to a doctor appointment. We then went to the mall to look for school clothes and get lunch. The place we went to for the pants was a bit loud but they turned down the music. We started talking and it turns out that they had a gift card for you guessed it - Red Lobster that they were not going to use. Amazing how things fall into place.

Now I dressed up in shirt and tie and let the wife know that we would be going out to dinner by showing her the gift card. I then showed her this hub / web site.

With the daughter watching the two boys the wife and I were off for our hot date. Things were looking good. The parking was right in front of the door. Going in there was a 15 minute wait. Not bad at all. As usual it took me a while to read the menu. The staff was understanding. It was amazing we had time to talk, eat and just look at each other. When it came time to pay for the dinner it was fun to say none of it was out of pocket. The gift card was fun but my parents had also sent us a card with cash and said go out to dinner. I think that the tip left was the largest that I had ever placed on the table when leaving a restaurant.
