Wedding Cake Pops Recipes and Photos
A Non-Traditional Approach to The Wedding Cake
I had made some fun, whimsical cake pops for children taking music lessons at my home, when a neighbor stopped by. She was getting married in less than a month, and the person who was going to do her cake had to back out. She saw the cake pops, and wanted them for her own wedding- done in the colors she had picked out. Instead of cake "pops" on a stick, she wanted cake balls.
Now, instead of having one large wedding cake, she would have the local baker provide a one-layer bride and groom cake, and I would make 300 cakeballs. She figured a serving per person would be three cakeballs.
I broke the 300 cakeballs into 6 different flavors, at 50 cakes balls for each flavor. It also allowed for a lot of creativity-- it also gave me six different designs to decorate with.
This was my largest order to date, but I was excited about it and confident that I could deliver. Besides, the colors were purple and yellow. How beautiful. I couldn't refuse.

The Best Recipe For Making Cake Balls
I found a great recipe to use for making cake balls. The batter for cake balls needs to be dense, in order to hold up when dipping into the candy coating. A few simple tricks will give you the consistency you need for perfect cake balls.
THE TRICK:
Using any cake mix:
Reduce the amount of water by 1/2, and use MILK instead of water
Add one extra egg to what is required.
Add one box of INSTANT PUDDING, to the closest flavor
You will need a mixer that can handle the density. Most hand-held mixers will have trouble as the batter thickens with the addition of the pudding.

Wedding Cake Balls Allow So Many Choices
Often times, a wedding cake will only allow for one or two, maybe three flavors. With Cakeballs, you can have so many more choices about flavors and decorations.
For this wedding, we also did "Groom Cake" cakeballs. Traditionally, chocolate is used for the groom cake. I made chocolate as well as German Chocolate cake balls for the Groom.
The chocolate cake balls were dipped in a dark chocolate candy coating, and sprinkled with silver sugar.
The German Chocolate cake balls were dipped in a milk chocolate coating, with a button of caramel, coconut and pecan frosting on top.

SPECIAL TIP For Baking the BEST Cake Balls
Lots of Ways to Decorate and Present the Wedding Colors - And lots of ways to enjoy the different flavors
I was able to present the bride's colors in several ways, as well as the bride's favorite flavors. She requested I also use her grandmother's special spiced pound cake for one of the flavors, and it was a beautiful use of tradtion. I also made coconut, strawberry, and traditional yellow cake.
For the yellow cake, I used a yellow, vanilla flavored candy coating, sprinkled with white coconut.
The strawberry cake was dipped in a white, vanilla flavored candy coating, with purple sprinkles.
The Coconut cake was dipped in purple candy coating, and sprinkled with coconut.
The spiced pound cake was dipped in white candy coating, and sprinkled with purple stained glass sugar.
Remember that adding a box of instant pudding gives your cake batter the density it needs to hold up under all that dipping and decorating!
