Apologetics 101: Burning Down Bible Strawmen

Updated on August 16, 2012

In part 2 of Apologetics 101, we will answer the top 'arguments' or road blocks to the cross. In reality these are strawmen and logcal fallacies so let's get started.

Let's start with the most popluar, the old testamant

We heard the manifested in different ways. Note: These are actual quotes from unbelievers, I removed the foul language.

"You are against homosexuality, but you eat pork and shell fish and have two different fabrics, aha, hypocrites"

"The God of the old testament is evil, killed women and children and he condoned slavery etc"

"Genesis, ha! Talking snakes, big leaky boat, drunk Noah, every species of every animal and dinosaurs."

Leviticus was written to those people at that time. Jews were surrounded by pagan people who ate pork (uncooked and unsanitary) engage in homosexual behavior, bestiality and offering (killing) babies as sacrifices to the sun god. God commanded that His people should NOT do what the pagans did. Since those pagans continue to practice immoral acts, God in His Holy Justice destroyed the wicked nation. It is a catch 22 with skeptics on this account. No matter what God did, they would find way to judge God, and they call Christians judgmental? The irony is not lost on me. The Old Testament shows how intolerant God is towards sin (i.e. His Wrath) Atheist quote from the OT with complete lack the understanding on how it relates to the NT, and if they choose to die in their sins God's Wrath is all they will ever know.

Now let's move on the Noah's Ark, but first take a look at the follwing hubs that will help you also

Noah's Ark

What about Noah's Ark?

We have all heard this last argument "Religion causes death, wars the Crusades and the Inquisition etc." "Hilter was a Christian"

Any Roman Catholic atrocities, esp. those late in the Middle Ages, can be denied by Protestants because they claim (rightly) that the Catholic church was corrupt and not following the teachings of scripture. Not only that, they are on record as persecuting those Protestants considered genuine Christians, even before the Reformation.

Who is evil?

Christians SHOULD own the abuses in their history to some extent; this does not lessen the weight of the arguments against the skeptics religion of Darwinism and its clear logical and historical connections to eugenics. Why do I bring up Darwinism? Read on.

Darwinism forms a critical pillar of the scientific justification for atheism, various brutal, atheistic totalitarian systems of thought like socialism and communism, and as a pillar behind Nazism. Darwinists like to disavow such connections, which are abundantly clear.

Unbelievers try to obfuscate the issue with Hitler by claiming that he was Christian, when really, he was just manipulating the church, and even though he might have thought himself Christian, objective historical review of his writings show that he was not Christian in thought, but rather, anti-Christian(closing churches, burning bibles), and pro-Darwinian.

Indeed, many (if not most) unbelievers are no better than the rabid "religious fanatics" are they so decry. But why?

II Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water.

Romans 1:18-23 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth of God in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man..."

Why do unbelievers continue on with these fallacious arguments? Because they really don't want to know.
